I don't know, probably you have to use a firewall. The latest office 
only works if it *can* phone home to check the license, office 2010 
should be ok.

Yes. CMD.EXE or the power shell. Or install cygwin, then you got a bash.

Install the BIOS compatibility layer so you have an MBR boot.

I beg your pardon, but why do you need a dual-boot machine? Here's what 
I do: Install linux. Buy crossover office (cheaply!) then buy M$ office 
if you need it, then install office in cross-over. Office 2007 and 
Office 2010 both run absolutely fine, everything works. No need to get 
in touch with the windows Os. Cx really integrates nicely into Linux.

Otherwise, grub2 might work. I find grub2 not very user friendly and 
prefer the legacy grub (much simpler!), but make your pick.

When I got a Blackberry Playbook tablet last year, I couldn't do anything 
with it until I went down to the local bookstore and used the wifi there 
to upgrade it.  I had no wifi at home, but it wouldn't do anything until 
it had been upgraded.

I just bought a Kobo Mini ebookreader yesterday, same thing.  It wouldn't 
go anywhere until the firmware was updated.

The good thing is that like my tv set, and that TomTom One GPS I got at 
a rummage sale for ten dollars, the Mini apparently runs Linux.  Even if 
Kobo has nothing for Linux, at least there's Linux Inside the ebookreader.

Nevermind!  I discovered the solution and it doesn't include Windows.

I needed to get all kinda LO writer and calc docs to my attorney, the
courts, and a couple banks involved in this mess.  The solution is,
convert everything to pdfs and tell 'em all to fsck off!  End of
story.  I can also tell M$ to piss up a rope for another 15 yrs.  BTW,
I solved the netflix/silverlight problem, also, by buying a Ruko.
Worth every penny.  :)

    There's been enough problems with MS formats that good chunks of the
legal profession have sworn them off already.

Or have open office save as .doc files and send those?

Of course telling a court to fsck off is probably not the way to get a
favourable judgement out of them.

Actaully, I send 'em to my attorney and let her feel the pain.  If she
thinks the court needs my docs, let her convert 'em to whatever they
desire.  She has a Mac with Windblows Orifice.  I'm not gonna play.

I think my attorney's apprehension was from ignorance rather
non-compatibility.  In fact, I jes sent my attorney full particulars
on LO.  Why should she pay for M$ Office?  And here's an amazing tutorial
website for LO, probably one of the best I've seen for any software.
