E-reader: expand capabilit?

Going to a remote, isolated location for a few weeks, may be a good reason
to buy an e-reader. But since e-readers are said to actually be
linux/android computers, a linux user would not want to be restricted
to using the e-reader for reading text.

Where's the 'entry point' for "jailbreaking" an e-reader?

An essential is that, you need to get into a loop:
 <read what's in the file-dir>
 <write to the file-dir>.

Currently I'm interested in the make: kobo;
but the principles should be the same for all brands?
