Well, one point would be that your newegg board is "out of stock" :)
Seriously, though, footprint's pretty much the only possible point,
and how important that might be is completely the end user's
(e.g., you and me) decision. But your "four times the specs for
about half the price" is a bit exaggerated. I see the newest
D54250WYK nuc is now available (sorry about long url),

while my original itx auction url (in op above) is ended,
but just search for itx and seller magic-micro at
  http://www.ebay.com/sch/ebayadvsearch/
for similar ones. Nuc seems maybe 50% more expensive for maybe
half the specs, but hard to measure quantitatively.

Anyway, original question still stands -- anyone actually install
linux on a nuc? What problems/comments/etc did you have?
