This week, the company revealed that Windows 10 will have a 6.6 GB smaller footprint than Windows 8, and will be available in a free, maker-oriented version designed for the Internet of Things. This Windows for Devices/IoT, or Windows 10 IoT, will not only run on the Raspberry Pi 2, but also two other open Linux boards: Intel's MinnowBoard Max (Intel Atom) and the Qualcomm Dragonboard 410c (Snapdragon 410). 6.6 Gb smaller? That would shrink a basic Linux install down to nothing. Not that I care about Windows :-D -- By nature, men are nearly alike; by practice, they get to be wide apart. -- Confucius

But be that as it may, the narrative also mentions that this report excluded cellphones, which suggests that the embedded market really being discussed here are widgets like routers, Raspberry Pi's, Wifi cameras and the rest of the 'Internet of Things', right? If so, the basic question here also is if this a market which will be filled with tons of cheap units which essentially follow principles of "commodity goods" once again? -hh

So it appears that the lincultists think that a device must be running embedded Linux, when in fact it is not. I believe the original java moniker was called Oakridge or something like that a long time ago when it was first developed.
