I prefer Rust now. Haskell is beautiful but is more complex then C++ ;) Assembly yessssssssssssssss, but is it language? C always, simple and efficient. All in all, I think that Rust got it right. -- press any key to continue or any other to quit...

There are different languages to provide different abstractions for different purposes. For text processing there is Perl. For mathematical programming there is Fortran. For those who want high abstractions there are OO languages. For those who want it simple and easy there is Visual Basic. There is no one single language that should be used everywhere. But for people who understand hardware there is C, which is only a small step above assembly.

It was the Script Troller who forged me (and others) and admitted to having done so. Well... like I said, I have a number of reasons for believing the flooder is the Script Troller, who is a bash scripter but I don't know if it could be used to spam like this. the Script Troller must know that Snit (a real advocate) can go get whatever software he has found, right, medhead? On top of that, anyone can can get software to block his crap, which renders his kiddie crap impotent, just like the Script Troller ;) Can you get over it? -- Top Six Ways the Script Troller Trolls https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.os.linux.advocacy/smzXrBhsWf4 https://youtu.be/IhOfBmWwCVY http://www.5z8.info/stalin-will-rise-again_j3h5uj_nakedgrandmas.jpg Jonas Eklundh

That said, 99% of the "programming" I do involves manipulating stdin/stdout, and bash is so well suited to the vast array of commandline utilities that are already in place that it's rare that I have a need to construct a utility from scratch, so I usually just bang out a bash script that ties together sed, awk, bc, etc. Sometimes runtime requires a C solution however, or the task may just not be easily done in bash, or even possible.

Well, open source is that. I beleive that other languages are used as well, it's just that Unix legacy tend to drag C. I would like to see other languages used, being open source so that we move away from C. > -- press any key to continue or any other to quit...

They cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel somehow superior by attacking the messenger. For as negative as you may think that is, it has lead to the insane amount of open source tooling over the years (as it is with JavaScript). > I would like to see > other languages used, being open source so that we move away from C. Someday this may happen but probably not any time soon.

There are other languages, but mainly people tend to write wrappers around C libs for that languages. Biggest advantage of C is that all languages have interface to it. Sure that will never be changed by itself. Name one language which can be called from other language that easilly... -- press any key to continue or any other to quit...

Why should this change? It's not going to change. Any change would result in inferiority. Multi-threaded applications and parallel programming are the future directions and NOTHING handles threads or parallelism better than C. Nothing.
