For you, a simple file open procedure with Basic requires a plea for comp.os.linux.advocaca to spoonfeed you. Get off your "worldly and seasoned programmer" ass and figure it out yourself. About 10 years ago I built two different doc mgmt/versioning front-ends in Access: one was photo mgmt only, the other was all doc types. In both cases I was forced to utilize the [back then] SQL Server-based Hummingbird (now OpenText) backend and API: https://www.opentext.com/products-and-solutions/products/enterprise-content-management/content-management/opentext-document-management That part was a big waste of money and a big kludgey system someone in IT must've been bribed to deploy. I hated the contortions required just to upload and download docs programatically. Plus I found a bug and these clowns wanted $500 to look at it. Are you building a true doc mgmt system with versioning and checkin/checkout and metadata, etc? Or is it just a simple repository everyone can access? >> It's impossible to future-proof anything. >> > > Programs written in C 30 years ago are still viable now and > they will be viable 30 years hence. > > Only the superfluous GUI is subject to the whims of fashion. Disappointing so far: except for file navigation, everything is significantly slower than in Windows 8.1. It IS very nice to be able to seamlessly read NTFS filesystems from Linux. >> With you at the helm, the system will reek thru and thru. >> > > Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! > > Have a look at the monthly bank statement from ANY bank. So you're used to your users saying "This looks like a baboon's ass - and this time I don't mean your face. Fix it!" And I'm telling you again: you are making a mistake using LibreOffice. Use Qt or Glade if you're deadset against MS products.

Turns out Jonas Eklundh Communication AB's constant mentioning of Takuya Saitoh met his own definition of trolling, so he insisted that comment of his was forged by Takuya Saitoh. Calls it "obsessing" over him, even though he proceeds to trigger that exact standard. Jonas Eklundh Communication AB is the effect of the fact that Russians have been employed to take over responsibility for educating the next generation. It's not a coincidence that he is a brainless communist. Can you knock off asking for my attention? Until or unless Jonas Eklundh Communication AB offers up his 'more advanced' Mac application for review, there is no threat, just unsupported contentions. - I Left My Husband & Daughter At Home And THIS happened! http://www.5z8.info/killallimmigrants_j6f7mm_gruesome-gunshot-wounds http://tinyurl.com/gsleb4p Jonas Eklundh Communication AB

A brain-dead corporate lackey thinks that he can give ME advice. How rich! This lackey knows only the latest buzzwords. He is yet another helpless prisoner of fashion. His solutions are predictable. Just throw a humongous GUI framework at the simplest of problems. What inefficient lunacy! At first I was considering MariaDB but for my needs but even this is tremendous overkill. I have now decided to use a TEXT database and to leverage the available power not just of LibreOffice but also of basic GNU/Linux text tools. (And that's just plain TEXT, not a text format like XML or JSON). The stooge is a good example of the corporate lackey. He does not understand the basics and is attracted only to the latest gimmick with a high price tag. (That's why I left HP and other corporate positions. Those disgusting corporate goons couldn't distinguish a digital flip-flop from a pair of Walmart sandals.) But the simplicity of GNU/Linux, coupled with a competent and inventive user (like me), can accomplish miracles.

I guess this is what happens when really inferior self-respect takes over Snit 'The Flooder' Glasser's psyche. For crying out loud, dude... even you have plonked that dunce. Given what he is (and does) no one would condemn you for wanting to be rid of his stupid type of nonsense. Where did you go to school? bigdog obviously has a heap of knowledge to contribute and he apparently wants to give back to the community. What he has not figured out, though, is this is maybe the most frustrating locale for doing that because a large part of what he will get back is wailing, double-crossing, and other nonsense. I am not fuming, he wants me to be but I am busting a gut because Snit 'The Flooder' Glasser's idiocy is so obvious. He actively did not list all the benchmarks that he would soon insist are needed... and we all know why. At least he has his own socks to back him. -- I Left My Husband & Daughter At Home And THIS happened http://www.5z8.info/killallimmigrants_j6f7mm_gruesome-gunshot-wounds http://www.5z8.info/hackwebcam_e9z2tw_friendster-of-sex Jonas Eklundh Communication

It's to take advantage of the reporting capabilities of either LO Calc or Base. It's not a file but rather a series of CSV files. When dropped into a directory LO Base will see them as read-only database tables. Editing is done with LO Calc. Of course that's just one possibility.

So, in essence, he's using LO as a framework ;)

Steve asked: > > > So, in essence, he's using Libre Office as a framework ;) > > > > Of course he is, that's what script kiddies do. > > You wrote this kind of stuff, didn't you ? What'd you use ? My bank community simulation (BankSim.EXE) takes inputs from (Excel) WorkBooks, and outputs to WorkBooks. Now, my client (ABA.COM) wants to use webpages instead; but they aren't using me to create the website; instead, they're using Asians (Indians). My job is to: A. Maintain and update the ABA Bank Simulation Models – BankExec, BankExec International and BankSim (“Programs”). B. Consult with ABA Program Manager to customize the Programs to meet the requirements of the ABA. C. Provide general maintenance of the computer simulations of the Programs. D. Update manuals when models are updated. E. Provide additional minor improvements to models as needed. F. Update the model economies on a regular basis. G. Fix mistakes found by model users in the field. H. Regularly test the models to assure accuracy of the simulations. I. Maintain general availability to answer questions concerning the simulations and problems found during installation or field use.
