Just did a quick test. From what I can see: On the summary sheet in Excel, you get the following text: ----- This document was exported from Numbers. Each table was converted to an Excel worksheet. All other objects on each Numbers sheet were placed on separate worksheets. Please be aware that formula calculations may differ in Excel. ----- This is not quite accurate: all non-table items were placed on one Excel sheet (multiple text boxes, an image, a shape, and a video). Where Excel *could* combine things it did (or where Numbers could, really, on its export). Another option the programmers could have done was to try to place all the tables on one large sheet. This would have maintained the Numbers sheets. Right now the only way they are maintained is on a "Summary" sheet it is noted where they came from. I did also test some templates. Was actually surprised at how well some worked. A Monthly budget with some text boxes, a couple of charts and a single table on one sheet, and on another sheet a list of transactions on a table but also some text boxes to explain, all transferred over reasonably well (better than I would have expected). On the other hand, a GPA calculator was pretty badly mangled. Anything with more than one table per sheet does not transfer over well -- the concepts of the programs are just too different. I can make a video to show you this if you want. >> This is different terminology than you use, of course, because of how >> different the programs are. > > Different terminology than I, and the rest of the non-Apple world, use. No reason they should not do both. And I am happy to see that LibreOffice 6, which came out recently, has added the ability to rotate images without converting them to another type. You can now MUCH more easily have images rotate AND have text flow around them. Still does not show the moving of images in real time, nor (from a quick test) does it allow the moving of an image partially off the page, but it is certainly a step in the right direction. But, sure, the LO team should not neglect pagination, selections, etc. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. So there is no grid in a Numbers "table" and it's in that respect that it's "more" like HTML?

So yeah. It's my main WP. His quote doesn't have you saying that vim is a word processor; it says that you use vim AS a word processor. Apparently, the guy is too stupid to see the difference. Even Notepad can be considered a word processor for someone but it doesn't mean that he thinks it is a word processor. It simply highlights his basic needs. However, you've shown that you can do pretty much whatever you would need to do in a word processor with vim so I can understand why it is your selection as such. You like to have total control over your documents and all the power to you for that.

Apparently, the guy is too > stupid to see the difference. Owl had more extreme quotes... with a quick search I did not find them. It was when we were having a discussion about Latex. But we can clear this up now: Owl, do you think vim is a word processor? I bet we get no direct answer. > Even Notepad can be considered a word processor for someone but it > doesn't mean that he thinks it is a word processor. It simply > highlights his basic needs. So yeah. It's my main WP. You might use it to do things most do with a word processor. I can respect that. Heck, when I used to use File Maker Pro more I did all sorts of things with it others would use "real" programming environments or "real" databases for. File Maker Pro is an amazing and flexible tool, but I used it in ways I am sure the developers did not imagine... and which would make any "real" programmer or scripter cringe. :) -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. "A word processor, or word processing program, does exactly what the name implies. It processes words. It also processes paragraphs, pages, and entire papers. Some examples of word processing programs include Microsoft Word, WordPerfect (Windows only), AppleWorks (Mac only), and OpenOffice.org. The first word processors were basically computerized typewriters, which did little more than place characters on a screen, which could then be printed by a printer." <https://techterms.com/definition/wordprocessor> That last paragraph throws an obvious wrench into your argument. > He insisted he was right. Given the above definition I fail to see how he was "wrong"
