This is a message for the bigots.

Naturally, the response will be "if you don't tolerate my bigotry, you
are intolerant too!"

Which is absurd. There is no moral compunction to tolerate bigotry, just
as there is no moral compunction to tolerate extremism.

Additionally, stereotyping and bigotry are outside the realm of logic and
reason:

Of course, you are free to conduct your discussions without logic and
reason -- just don't expect anyone to take what you say seriously.

No he doesn't.

(I specifically use that faq on that domain for a reason.)

It's also very telling that all the clown had to talk about was a domain
name, and not his own logical fallacy.

Oh well -- no reason to take the guy seriously.

Christians and Muslims are much the same.

Both oppose a woman's right to control her body.
Both oppose birth control.
Both oppose drug legalization.
Both oppose equality for gays.
Both oppose pornography.
Both oppose pre-marital sex.
Both oppose prostitution.
Both oppose secularism.
Both support the death penalty.
Both support prayer in school.
Both support pushing their views on others.

Etc.

They are natural allies.

Ah, yes, another thing they have in common. Fair enough.

Of course, in both cases we are talking about only SOME of the group.

The problem with the New Testament is that it incorporates a lot of
people who should never have had any kind of influence. If they're not
Mark, John, Paul and Matthew, they should be ignored because they were
only added by the Roman Catholic church which had sought to merge the
existing Pagan beliefs with the Christian ones. Those passages should
have been rejected long ago and if the Vatican supports them in any way,
it gives you a good idea of what kind of group we're dealing with.

The holy books of both religions are used to defend good and bad. The books
of Christianity have, I think, been altered more through the years - at
least their "newer" books. With Islam one guy wrote their holy book... and I
think it has stayed pretty much the same. With Christianity a number of
different people did, generations after the supposed writings of their
prophet, and in both cases they have selected and altered the older books.
And translated them for their own benefit.

The problem with the Qu'ran is that is that is started off as inspired
by the holy books which already existed at the time. The first few
chapters are therefore slightly sweeter versions of what you'd see in
the Holy Bible or the Torah simply because Muhammad and his pedophile
friends wanted to attract as many people as possible by showing them
something familiar. Once they had the numbers, the chapters changed
significantly and beheading, enslaving and raping became acceptable.
It's clear that it wasn't meant to be a religion as much as a way of
making intolerable behaviour legal. Besides, what potential follower in
that part of the world will say no to having underage sex slaves?
There's a reason their numbers swelled so much.

However, I have neither desire nor obligation to respect Islam and I won't.

I do not like or dislike Christianity or Islam, but there are members of
each group who I think are generally good people and bad. I do think it is
troublesome looking at what Muslims tend to support compared to what
Christians do - hard to defend Islam with that. But I also will not paint
millions of people in either religion with a broad brush. Both are tools
that can be used to help people do great things with their lives... or evil
things. Same with Judaism and other religions. And, of course, there are
atheists who do good and those who do evil.

Yeah, and I'll explain it. He was poor as dirt but managed to attract a
rich, older woman. They lived peacefully and she didn't seem too
bothered by the fact that he was epileptic. He, on the other hand, got
bored with the idea of having sex with such an old bag. He therefore
used his many seizures to get himself what he wanted. Since epilepsy
wasn't common and people didn't know what it was, Muhammad convinced
anyone stupid enough to believe him that each of these seizures was him
communicating with God. After each one, he'd claim that God wanted
people to have small things. Each seizure brought greater demands where
slavery, killing a man and marrying his wife, enslaving small girls and
raping them became commonplace. After all, that's what God wanted.

You can support such a religion all that you want but I don't.

I like people, I hate people who use their religion as a basis to do bad
things. A religion is only valuable as long as it is private and helps
you to become a better person. If it is used to inflict pain on others,
it should be abandoned.

I no more support that than all the evil stuff in the bible, and there is a
lot of it. Does not mean all Christian are evil, though.

An interesting exercise in literature: re-read the Bible but assume it is
written from the point of view of a unreliable narrator. God and his
followers claim he is good as he does a lot of horrific things.

Again: I know you are Christian and I no more hold that against you than I
hold Islam against my Muslim friends. To me it is how people act that
matters, not their religion (or lack of it).

Exactly! And I do not care if that religion is Christianity, Islam, Judaism,
Hinduism, or FSM. There are good and bad in each of these groups, and good
and bad atheists.

Insults against Christianity don't bother me; clearly, a great deal of
stupidity has been done in its name and it deserves some of that hatred.

The moment a religion becomes influential in affairs of the state, you
know that it's bad. No matter how moral people might believe the faith
is, it becomes corrupt the moment it receives any kind of power.
