If he was white and a Christian he would be described as an anomaly who was
mentally ill. He was not white or, presumably, Christian, so his actions are
tied to those and mental illness is not mentioned.

According to one person commenting he was not even a Muslim. The article
does not say.

No, if he was white and Christian, they would already be talking about
white supremacists and playing an endless loop of the Dylan Roof crap
and the Confederate battle flag.

If he was black he would be called a "youth in his twenties."
