It would appear that my beloved Breyers Yogurt is no more. Good thing
that can never happen to Linux. I'll never wake up one day and find that
Linux is just no longer available. Capitalism is *so* good for humanity.

What are you talking about?

There are loads of OTHER yoghurts available.

Choice... And people chose NOT to support Breyers at a guess. If people
really wanted it, someone would make it.

You see with foods, not any idiot like you could mix up their own
bacteria filled yoghurts and sell them to the public from your basement
: there are rules and regulations to stop you poisoning the public and
claiming "its good for you". See the similarity?

Breyers was the best. And there is no *other* Breyers yogurt, just
like there is no *other* Windows or Solaris. Best not to get too happy
with a proprietary platform. It might disappear tomorrow.

I don't care why. I just want my Black Cherry Fruit on the Bottom
Breyers Yogurt. But now I can't have it. Ever again. :(

Microsoft Windows is a proprietary brand owned by one company that has
sole control over whether or not you continue to have access to that
product in the future, just like the company that owned the Breyers
Yogurt brand. See the similarity?

You seem confused. I am supporting the OSS solutions where
appropriate. Owl is lamenting his loss of a closed source solution.

You're not very good at this are you? In fact, you dont seem very good
at anything at all.

Ah, but the COLA mavens know full well that Microsoft is driven by pure
greed for the billions in profits that they receive from Windows. History
has shown that we can rely on such people to continue to supply what the
public wants to buy so there is no immediate danger of Windows disappearing
from the shelves. Rather Microsoft will doubtless continue to protect it
viciously and will improve features and functions to entice future purchases
of Windows and products containing Windows. They will continually have to
be rigorously constrained by laws that regulate this behavior.

Your yogurt analogy is spot on though, owl.

Come the day when Windows is no longer wanted by the consumer, Microsoft
will drop it and only pirated copies will be available. Like yogurt, too,
you will have to be satisfied with something less than what you really want,
for example Linux.

That makes no sense. If Windows is no longer wanted by the consumer,
why would an alternative be considered "something less"?

You really are tying yourself up in Knots. Amicus hooked you nice and
cleanly there with his "spot on" comment!

Since you're the master of gibberish, maybe you could explain how
a consumer might no longer want some product and would therefore
"have to be satisfied with something less."

Amazing how an excess of cheap wine can cause someone to actually
*enjoy* making a public jackass of himself.

I think he finally dropped the crystal meth habit... his recent posts are
far more sedate.

And why would it be "pirated" either, if it's no longer wanted?

> amicus_curious is a sophist, not a logician.

Well he means to be a sophist, anyway. The results are rather more
transparent though. Ultimately he's just a bigot with an agenda, and
like all bigots he has no interest in either morals or reason.

Your Yogurt is no longer wanted (hence no longer made).... and you consider
the alternatives something less.

The analogy is excellent in terms of how most people see desktop Linux.
Personally I esp. like how you talked about the "consistency" of the
yogurt... but that is just me. :)

Context, owl, context! LOL!

You are complaining that your favorite yogurt, Breyers IIRC, is no longer
available and the alternates are not as desirable. You suggest the same
could happen to Windows, the clear parallel being that you want Windows, but
it is no longer available since the proprietor has ceased production. Just
like everyone except yourself wants some alternate to Breyer's, others would
prefer something other than Windows.

It is sheer fantasy, of course, but it was your allegory.

So the proprietary yogurt cost more but had higher quality. The open source
yogurts are just not as good.

Good analogy for how most people see Linux.

Right: even though you can use the open source options and tweak them how
*you* want, with essentially infinite flexibility, you want what the experts
produced - the options they pre-selected for you because, face it, they were
experts in yogurt and you are not. Could you make yours as good - perhaps,
but not without a lot of work and likely not with the same consistency.
Consistency is important to yogurt. I do not like mine runny.

Good analogy for how many people see Linux. Interesting topic - thanks.

Yes: you mourn the loss of the proprietary brand because even with its flaws
and risks, you simply prefer it to the open source varieties... the
essentially infinite varieties you could make for far, far less.

Perhaps you now understand better why desktop Linux is not more popular than
it is... people want their Breyers Yogurt.

Bwahahahahahaha. What a beotch slapping for Owl. I almost feel sorry for
him.

So his "choice" is a shelf Yoghurt! Did it have a "monopoly"?
hahahahaha.

Good job their Snit. I bet Owl wished he'd never been sent on this
"advocacy" skirmish by his master Roy now ;)

Well, he whined about the loss of the proprietary stuff because it is better
than the alternatives - including the open source ones. Then he compared
this to OSs...

He made the exact opposite point he meant to.
