Three years ago, I wrote the bishop of our local diocese to have my name removed from the RC baptism rolls. I had had enough of them. And though Pope Francis puts on a nice face, I think the upper echelons of the Catholic hierarchy are simply too extremist -- and ignorant -- for the modern world. Now I'm Unitarian Universalist. Which means, I believe everyone has to find their own path. I don't think the rank-and-file Catholics are extremists -- they are decent people who have good human consciences. But "by their fruits, you shall know them" goes for institutions as well as individuals. I -- for one -- am not particularly happy about the Catholic Church constantly apologizing for being Catholic. But you're right about a lot of issues in the Church now -- most springing forth from Modernism (which Pope St. Pius X warned us about a century ago). Catholics should not be ashamed to be Catholics, but we do have a mess with many Catholics who are now putting liberalism (in the "libertine" sense) above Catholicism. -- Zero tolerance for WinDrones and iCultists

Catholics should > not be ashamed to be Catholics, but we do have a mess with many > Catholics who are now putting liberalism (in the "libertine" sense) > above Catholicism. I think we're talking past each other. I suppose when the Catholic Church apologizes for shuffling priests around for behavior that should land them in jail, that this is more "apologizing for being Catholic"? BTW, I've never heard of the Church volunteering this information -- they get caught at it, and _then_ they're all sorry and faux-penitent. Hell, I'm living in the Santa Rosa Diocese, which has been through this particular hell and back again several times. I could spew a laundry list of scandals that have rocked this diocese -- but I'll just let you look them up, because they are common knowledge at this point. And if your pejoratively-used term "liberalism" means not putting up with corruption and medieval thinking any longer -- well, that's your term for it. There are a lot of people -- myself included -- who are very proud of "liberal religion", which is a very specific term. Next you'll tell me how terrible the Transcendentalists or the Quakers were and are, and I'll laugh in your face. The current Catholic hierarchy doesn't want the laity to have any power, and I can't see that changing any time soon. But hey, if that's what you want in a church, don't let me stop you -- just don't give me shit and tell me it's sugar. People with clear eyes and sound reason aren't putting up with that crap anymore. -- -v Kernel:4.1.5-sd Desktop:Xfce 4.12.2 Distro:Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela

Because, personally, I don't think truth changes, nor should the Catholic Church change from its duty and office given to it by Christ (who founded it). It's not a democracy, it supposed to be teaching with Christ's authority. And Christ didn't change his teaching to accommodate whatever new fad came along. Where the Church has erred is in not retaining the doctrine and authority as handed down by its Founder. -- Zero tolerance for WinDrones and iCultists

-----
a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas,
etc. : a bigoted person; especially : a person who hates or
refuses to accept the members of a particular group (such as a
racial or religious group)
-----
Ask yourself: are you painting a group of over a billion people with the
same brush merely because they share the same religion? If so then you have
defined yourself as having bigoted views.
