I did not know that, CERN, but thanks for telling us. I'm glad you're
not forcing bogus Linux hobbyware on the employees and scientists and
engineers.

As I've often said, Windos can work OK, when professionally managed
and isolated by industrial-strength fireballs.

It's the clueless home use who is most let-down, by Micro$oft's shaky
security.

Steve Carroll reported him years ago. As expected, it did zilch to thwart the dunce.

Just idiotic trolling. And I am responding to that trolling. THAT is what the "Snit 'The Flooder' Glasser circus" is.

I bet Snit 'The Flooder' Glasser thinks his life was worse than Steve Carroll's. You're six seconds away from being in everyone's kill file.

I'm at work, behind an industrial-strength firewall and using
industrial-strength AV software.

I do have admin rights on my machine, though. After all, I am an
engineer. 8)

My work machines depend on which enclave they’re on for if we
have Admin or not. Could be Admin authorized on all the Nets, but
generally, I prefer to not bother with it anymore, as there’s various
additional certs to maintain to do that and there’s more important
things to do. So when there’s a glitch, we just make a phone call
and a guy wearing jeans & sneakers shows up within 60 minutes to
fix it .... and when he’s done, we may also mention to him to check
the toner levels in the printers before he leaves...

Which is why my daughter's Windos box occasionally gets owned and
requires a re-install, despite our best efforts.

The average clueless home user, surfing the Web as admin? Good luck!

Just look at Prescott Computer Guy's programs and look at mine, there is nothing for Klaus Schadenfreude to learn from a fool like Prescott Computer Guy. But hey, let him keep making a fool of himself. He can make another sock to pat himself on the back.

Just brainless trolling. And I am replying to that trolling. THAT is what the "Prescott Computer Guy circus" is.

The majority of Linux users in this forum do programming either as entertainment or as a career, so I have doubts more than a few consider writing macros to be "voodoo". Prescott Computer Guy is six seconds away from being in my kill filter. Klaus Schadenfreude can create a virtual machine. Of course that is not possible on anything but Linux! He says that he uses Linux, while really he never works with it to get any real work done and honesty pushed it. Prescott Computer Guy is far too ignorant to write a quality script. The only scripting he's ever shown he can do is click, click, drool, drool.

In my defense, I do make it a point to wear a nice shirt. Usually
Ralph Lauren.

Thank God I didn't work at a time/place where one was expected to wear
a tie. How utterly *stupid*, they are.

Bought at the local outlet mall, no less.

In any event, he rattled off no less than three replies from a single post.

On textiles, I had an international conference last week in San Diego
for which dress code was shut & tie...even though I don’t need to
be that formal on a daily basis anymore, doing so again for a week
just wasn’t a big deal.

When I first started in information technology back in the mid 70's, IBM
used to come to service our glass house and they would be wearing suits,
neck ties and white shirts. The reason for the white shirts was the ink
from the printers and check sorters could be bleached out, more or less.

I always thought it was idiotic to see an IBM technician pulling
interface cables through a computer room raised floor, all the time
wearing a suit. The guys in the electricians union had the right idea.
Jeans and tee/sweatshirts and making 10x what the IBM geeks were making.

Owl's actions are duplicitous. There can be no ambiguity that as soon as any ex 'plonkee' does anything to hurt the little coward's feelings that they'll be blocked again. Rambling cretin.

Owl must grasp everyone knows he is just trolling. Only what Owl wants matters to Owl. There is nothing you or I can do to change that. It's a trolling addiction and it is what it is. He makes false accusation to multiple groups of people who have nothing to do with anything, but that's a conceited fool for you. What Jeff Relf and you care about isn't a factor.

I like the look of suits, even if they're generally overkill nowadays.

I wore suits to work for 10 years, from 1985 to 1995 or so. Suits from
Brooks Brothers, Rich's and Jos A Bank. White or blue button down
shirts, Pinpoint Oxford usually, with various power ties. Johnston &
Murphy wingtips or tabor cap, always in black. HSM trench coat.

I would sometimes have on $600 - $700 worth of business clothes. It
seems silly now, but dressing like that was required back in the day.

I bet we have different views about DFS.

I can tell from the manner DFS asked - by getting wrong basics of the system and suchlike - he has not figured out a resource demanding task. If he had he would have understood the requirements! That's what DFS does when he gets upset. He immediately creates a puppet, starts a new thread so he can claim some lie. Hey it was my left hand... and then DFS talks to his own post with his right hand. Given how repeatedly it is clear that DFS's .sig file is some skew of a comment Steve Carroll posted which had been a beating on DFS for something he did which was absurd/inaccurate/etc... its clearly a common reminder of DFS's unending unease for having been so routinely humiliated. I'd post to DFS directly but he's a cretin who distorts your words to achieve his appetite to call everyone a troll. You're ten seconds away from being in my kill file.

The "advocates" value conformity in both their lives and their computer systems. Of course I quoted examples of DFS holding me accountable for the actions of others, attacking Steve Carroll, etc. His response: to troll Steve Carroll.

No no. Flooder Carroll never agreed to stop flooding. He lied about his trolling and that was that. What did you assume from the lying imbecile? That Flooder Carroll dunderhead has nothing to lose but time. He has nothing else. Especially not confidence. Of course, the lone thing that matters to Flooder Carroll is arguing he is "honest", and if he can not have that he will do more research to actively slap truly honest people down, which is dumb as hell. You insisting a lie is real does not make it true.

I’ve generally preferred Jacket & tie, as it cuts down on dry cleaning
and it’s a bit more flexible even though not as dressy. It can also let
you to travel really light by wearing the jacket vs packing it.

I had to suit up for my meetings in Brussels. Was always a struggle finding
a good compromise for the outer gear for the winter trips ... light enough to
be easy to travel with wasn’t good in the weather and vice versa.

That’s pretty much the mark with off the rack today: figure a basic good
quality blazer will be $250-$300, with a good pair of wool trousers $125
hemmed. Add pair of dress shoes for $125, oxford for $50 and a $40 tie
and you’re at ~$600.
