You can set the cruise controller to 90km/h on a 2000 thousand meter high sierra, and it will keep the speed both going up or down. I tested it. -- Cheers, Carlos. ES🇪🇸, EU🇪🇺;

It was useless in upstate New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire, all of which are mountainous. Most of the tractor trailers I drove did have cruise control. It was very handy when crossing Kansas. You could set it for 65 mph and get busy making a sandwich. It worked a little better since the diesels had compression braking.

Flat highway, mountain roads (better if they are highways, though), cities. :-D Although on a down slope the cruise control in my car will not hold it. I can downshift and sometimes that will do it. But with the electric car it was wonderful, the regenerative brake did hold the car in any of the slopes I tried. > > Most of the tractor trailers I drove did have cruise control. Still, the best teachers manage to point out errors without
making someone feel like an idiot. Abusive language may be
satisfying, but only for the abuser. It certainly doesn't
accomplish the goal.

It's all part of the philosophy of "I really don't want to have to injure/kill you, but if don't do as I say, I *will* do."

British English uses the French spelling. (I'm not sure where the difference in words ending -or/-our, like honour and colour, comes from.) American _pronunciation_ is also weird for the kilo- prefix when applied to meters/metres, though it does for grammes/grams or watts. -- J. P. Gilliver. I've seen people smoke the brakes in a passenger car when they aren't familiar with mountain driving. Downshifting a bicycle doesn't work. I blew a tire on a downgrade where the rim brake resulted in a red hot rim. Okay, so it wasn't red, but if you wet a finger and touched it you'd get a sizzle. Disk brakes on bikes, at least the front wheel, are a definite improvement.
