You need some training. It was the office girl (a mechanic in theory
perhaps, but she worked in the garage reception) who did it, and fried
part of the electronics in my car.

It can rise to 2.33 volts while on charge. This translates to the voltage at the lighter socket being anywhere between 11.8 and 14.4 Volts. When the engine is running, it normally will be about 14.4 volts. 13.2 volts is a safe voltage to hold the battery at while on float charge. I have these for on a boat: 250_Ah_12V_to_230V_sinewave_IXXIMG_0796.JPG Now in use as backup for my computers, as the UPS battery gave up after constantly coming in since the power company changed their meter for a 'smart' one and removed the connection of neutral to local ground, causing a voltage drop. So much for improvement, now you pay more for their cable losses?? That battery pack runs microwave and fridge too if needed I have 3 large flexible solar panels for on a boat. And a small fixed 80 W one upstair in a window. Several solar powered flashights too, some with hand crank.

LIPo batts CAN still explode for no obvious reason. Got a scar to prove it. Future/NOW ... look into sodium batteries. Plenty on Amazon. Almost as good as LIPo bur DON'T blow up in your face and set everything on fire. Seems the usual charge circuits for lead-acid work fine for sodium, though sodium CAN be charged faster. AM looking to make a semi-decent DC power storage unit - probably solar charged. Doesn't have to be huge, maybe ten or fifteen thousand kva, above the 'consumer' UPS units. A 120vac take-off is required of course, but want 12vdc too. NOT an 'off-grid solution' ... just a 'fill-in'. But, DO want the sodium batteries. I will look around a bit for some big ones. The lead-acid one in my APC UPS is now, after several years, as good as dead just tried a charge - recharge cycle, not much battery capacity left. A new battery for it is about 20 Euro / 20 US dollars. I can get a new UPS with battery from about 100 Euro / dollars here: https://www.alternate.nl/UPS Was already thinking about a design, maybe sodium is an option..

Alternate was a good shop in Spain, over a decade ago; I bought many
things from them. Now they are useless, no shop here, long delivery
times, and garbage web page.

Last time I bought something from them was in June 2025 A Toshiba Canvio Basics 4 TB Harde schijf I have 4 now, 2 on my Raspberries, one on the TV, one on a big PC raspberrypi: ~/mail # cd raspberrypi: ~ # df Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/root 124334328 33771112 85464388 29% / devtmpfs 3879380 3879380 0 100% /dev tmpfs 4044244 29016 4015228 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 1617700 1328 1616372 1% /run tmpfs 5120 4 5116 1% /run/lock /dev/mmcblk0p1 258095 50413 207682 20% /boot tmpfs 808848 24 808824 1% /run/user/1000 /dev/sdb2 3844420600 3554244888 94815048 98% /mnt/sda2 So sdb2 already 98 % full.. Those 4 TB Toshibas are the best harddiscs I ever had. Used as backup too. No problem with Alternate here in the Netherlands Been buying stuff there since May 2005: a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 (120 GB)

They are currently used in phones, laptops, tablets, e-bikes and some cars. LiFePO4 batteries, on the other hand are currently being used in many thousands of boats as power supplies for the domestic stuff, and I have yet to hear one report of an explosion or fire that was not started by ancillary equipment. The cells are usually still intact after the fire. You *can*, if you are determined enough, make the cells ignite by, say, repeatedly using an ice pick to puncture them, but it needs to be a metal pick, so that it shorts out the internal structures and even then, as long as you stand upwind, the fumes won't hurt you. > Future/NOW ... look into sodium batteries. Not a single one in the resuktys, but I *was* offered lead acid of various types, as well as a number of Lithium based batteries of various tyoes. Do you have a link for a sodium battery on Amazon? The problem is that the cell voltages need clever electronics to use them with normal equipment, as it varies between 3.1 and 1.5 volts per cell in normal use. The energy density is not much more than half that of Lithium based batteries. > AM looking to make a semi-decent DC power storage > unit - probably solar charged. (I have about 4kVA on the boat, and that lasts me a couple of days, as long as I don't use the immersion heater.) > Fair, stackable, commercial units : > > https://xpcc.com/xtreme-power-sodium-ups/ > I'd want rather more run time than they offer. I've seen it demonstrated that a Sodium-ion battery is basically just as easy to puncture causing thermal runaway and catching fire as a Lithium-ion battery ...
