That was one of my main points.
The main consumption features of iTunes have been displaced by Internet
streaming services. The idea of carrying your own stuff around with you is
now looked down upon by the Cupertino hive mind.

What this 'Streaming = Future' mantra is really overlooking isthat it was the very lack of wireless connectivity which historically gave rise to the original iPod: it solved the problem that urban commuters had, as a plain old transistor radio wasn't very useful during their daily underground commute (not unlike Sony Walkmans before it). The ramifications are that to go back to relying on a wireless connection for their media is a step _backwards_ in capability for these consumers. Now where it does make sense is surface vehicular-based commuters, primarily as a means to compete against XM/Sirius Radio, and these consumers are already paying a subscription fee, so it is basically a question that's akin to "churn" rather than a larger transformational shift. -hh

The idea that people no longer need local content on their devices because they can just "stream" is ridiculous. Evidenced by the fact that portable devices (cell phones) have more and more storage with each generation. before. I had ample opportunity to "kick the tires".

They aren't "popular", they're bundled.
[deletia]
I wouldn't be surprised if the average rube Apple user isn't capable
of "using it hard enough" to find or percieve any problems in the default
Mac apps. They probably don't have enough music, or enough video, or a
sufficient diversity of content sources, or sufficient imagination to
stumble into the limitations of Apple software.
What's worse is that if you do manage to stumble on those things, the
Apple hive mind will turn on you. They don't do interesting things and
don't want to do interesting things. Admit to a little imagination and
they will accuse you of being a criminal.
They're like all of those drones from the 1984 Mac commercial.
Windows users aren't nearly as limited in their thinking.
I doubt if you've ever touched any of those Mac apps, EVER, even in an
Apple store nevermind on a system of your own.
