Many people view the political spectrum as a line stretching off to
infinity in both directions. The left end is known as a "worker's
paradise" by the left-wingers, and "godless communism" by the
right-wingers. The right end is known as "sweetness and light"
by the right-wingers and God knows what by the left-wingers.
(Corporatocracy, perhaps, or maybe "corporate fascism".)

In actual fact, the ends of this line curve around and meet,
meaning that Hitler and Stalin really aren't that far apart.
As somone once said in one of these discussions, the extremists
all meet somewhere around on the dark side.

Since Hitler and Stalin aren't that far apart, we don't need to wonder
what would happen if Communists and their Muslims allies in North
America would do if they manage to take a greater amount of power. War
and misery is on the menu.

The Left LOVE Islam. 'Queers for Palestine' is the most ridiculous
thing I have ever heard.

Churchill described Islam as a "militant and proselytizing faith" and
asserted that "the influence of the religion paralyses the social
development of those who follow it" In the same text, he criticized what
he perceived as a "fatalistic apathy", economic stagnation, and the
status of women under traditional interpretations of Islamic law

And, in fact that is exactly true of the hard left of today as well.
Apart from the woman bit.

The problem is that the rational materialism of the post modern
intellectuals has eroded any semblance of religious faith and morality
in those who espouse it and left a massive vacuum in those who simply
need something - anything - to Believe In. And give them some kind of
Moral Compass.

Into that vacuum steps Communism, Wokeism, Political correctness,
Liberalism, Radical Islam . the Greens and of course yer axshul Donald
Trump and MAGA.

All promising salvation. And sa simple set of moral guidelines 'America
first. fuck the foreigners' 'God is great, fuck the infidels' .
'Everybody is really nice, kill the bastards who don't think so'

And so on.

That's led to some very strange bedfellows. The paleoconservatives and
other segments of the right never had much use for Israel not that they
have any love for the Islamics. The majority US Jews are Democrats and
some are further to the left like Sanders. So now the left doesn't like
Israel which leads to some cognitive dissonance for the older lefties.

Horseshoe indeed. I think US politics is going to get weirder than usual
in the coming years. 'Weimar' comes up more frequently in conversations.

At some point, salvation comes from simply turning all electronics off

That would be fine if it was just your head: I ran into the fringes of
an animal rights demonstration once. Now I have had loaded guns pointed
at me, but the wild eyed guy with the placard shrieking ' kill the
murderers' was far more scary...

The demonstrations in this area are quite peaceful and laid back. They
might be nutters but they do know who is going to lose if they play

Which is part of why it is difficult for _me_ to turn off the screen.
I'm trying to pay less attention to what's going on in the United States
though. Much like YouTube which knows you so well that it always has yet
another video for you to watch, American news has just enough drama for
you to keep your eyes peeled. Trying to get away from what seems to be
an endless distraction is proving to be very difficult.

I think it was Goebbels that remarked that a KPD radical that had a change

Bingo! That looks a lot like my theory.

I think the Taliban are somewhere off the ends.

Both communism and corpocracy have one thing in common. No decisions or
wealth should be left in the hands of the little people.

We are slaves, either to the State or the Company.

And as they call it in Communist [ANC] run South Africa, 'State Capture'
ensures that they are essentially the same thing.

Big Business and State Socialism are very much alike, especially Big
Business.”

“Too much capitalism does not mean too many capitalists, but too few

Chesterton and Belloc's distributism followed from Catholic social

He did have a way with words. It gets a bit strange toward the end but I
think of 'The Man Who Was Thursday' every time the FBI makes one of their
orchestrated busts. Six out of seven of the members of the underground
anarchist cell were actually undercover detectives of various agencies.

That might be confused with coprophagia -- or perhaps they are the same
thing. I've always had a soft spot for Old Bill, not wanting to dwell in
Plato's Cloud Cuckoo Land.

I dear, they may well converge as the old doctrine about 'mushroom'
management says "Keep them in the dark and feed them on bullshit"

fuzz, pigs, cops, etc.

Willy Occam understood what everyone else forgot till Hume. A Hypothesis
is only disprovable.

In which case why be so damned complicated. It was all lies anyway.. No
one knew the truth and only the Church claimed to...

"Orientate" is an example of the trend toward polysyllabificationizing.

(My other pet peeve: saying "preventative" instead of "preventive".)

“Adaptation” or “adaption”?
