Labor and the time it takes is just part of getting a good PC, you have to buy it as parts, you have to design it. You could pay a fortune for some other person to do the work for you, but it's not worth it, you'd be better off in that case with a decent prefab machine. But what do you do with IKEA furniture? Do you pay someone to assemble it, or do you just bite the bullet and take the time? It's not so different with a PC, it's something you'll get a lot of use out of. Both Mac Mini's I've owned have been underpowered slugs. Even
the Mac Studio can be sluggish, when it really shouldn't be, especially
considering the pretty penny we paid for it.

Sure in broad generalities ... but Joel's already countered that defense
by noting that he'll never fill even but 1TB.

YMMV; I've found the base spec 2020 mini (M1) to have been quite
adequate for day to day workflow activities. I'd not expect it to be a
performance workhorse.

IIRC, you were working with some sort of IT task that wasn't video or
otherwise in its wheelhouse. I have no complaints, although I'll admit
that I've not been pushing it to its fullest yet. Its nevertheless
still quite a bit more snappy than my prior Mac Pro tower.

I needed Win10/11 at first, and enjoyed using them, but I moved on. It was worth it. I got my use out of it, but it outgrew my hardware, as M$ crapware tends to do, so I got out, I installed Linux.
