Keep telling yourself that.

Verily I say unto thee, that flatfish spake thusly:

What a load of cobblers. There's a vast ocean of companies using and
selling Linux products by the boatload. Just because you don't catch
them hauling Linux into Microsoft's shored-up monopoly, doesn't make
the net value of Linux any less. Stores are /teaming/ with crates of
Linux products. Trawl around anywhere and you can't help but cast an
eye on them. What makes Microsoft's bloated whale so special anyway?
It's just one fish in a comparatively small pond, on the grand scale
of things it means nothing. Even in its own waters it's floundering,
as nobody wants to shell-out for that maggot-infested pile of rancid
blubber. It is only because Microsoft dumps its load into everyone's
hold, batons down the hatches, ties everyone up and flails them with
a whip until they hand over their booty, that anyone's even burdened
with that pile of old barnacles at all, so don't keep dredging it up
as proof of how good it is. They're just a bunch of pirates who take
what they want, dump their garbage, and scuttle any ship that fights
back. But Microsoft's only got one ship in the vast ocean, and there
are plenty more fish in the sea.

Doesn't need to, I can get the 32-bit and the 64-bit version on one DVD
and both sides are free. Try that in $tranglewareland.

More than that of paid trolls, I understand it isn't just the rates that
suck.

But you give your time away for free.
Any compensation is better than free.

Why waste time trying to make Linux work?

Assuming you *can* make it work, most can't, you are still left with
Linux.

Doesn't make sense to me.

Nothing would, I expect.

Oh, I have 6 linux installations on this box right now totaling $0000.00
and they all work. Note the 4-digit figure of zeros! That's 5 more than
the the number of windows I've bought for around $1000 that don't crap
out trying to install to it (in case anyone has hardware more than a
month old out there in $stranglewareland).

But that ain't shit, did you know that the best use of linux is actually
made while *beating manners into windows*?

   dd if=/anywhereyoulike/backupfile.iso of=/dev/sdaX

or "the only real backup is one that don't need the original OS to
restore it" [read 10 times out loud].

So let's see, you install what is anything but the magnificent 7 and
you set it up and you tweak it, right? You make a little backup in 5
minutes like so

   dd if=/dev/sdX of=/theneighborspiano/mybackup.iso

get it? Then not if but when it dumps on you you just reverse the
command booting briefly from a linux install DVD and in 5 minutes your
'doze is back the way it was, as Enya would sing "ONCE". 3rd party
virusware? 3rd party backupware? Those are words absent in the
linuxlexicon, and so is TRUST because linux is open source and, as we
all have come to learn, if the word trust is in your dictionary than
only one thing is sure in closed-sourcese and it is this: your
dictionary isn't a security dictionary.

Now go get your linux distro or some dyslexia pills.

And that's what they are worth.... $0.0.

Minus all the time you spent making them work of course.

The best use of Linux is taking up your free time.
It's great for that.

Sure....
Now recover in 3 clicks from a crashed hdisk.
I can easily do that with Acronis.
And I don't need to write a pile of scripts via rsync to do it.

Don't bother trying to squirm around it, you can't do it as easily as I
can with Windows and Acornis.

Hey, Acronis will do the same for Linux partitions as well.

Of course you have to pay for it which eliminates most Linturds because
freetards are notoriously cheap.

> Now go get your linux distro or some dyslexia pills.

Dyslexia pills are exactly what a person needs while trying to make
Linux, especially ubuntu, work.

I suspect a few shots of bourbon might help as well.

Linux is good for general users but where it is really the best is for
power users.

You have thousands of free programs and utilities available, you can
install any of them from the comfort of your package manager.

You don't need to waste an afternoon upgrading every single program you
use, you can upgrade all the installed programs in a few clicks or by
typing a single command.

Linux emerged from an hands-on culture and you are provided with lots of
powerful programs designed to be combined to do whatever you want.

The UNIX shell allows you to control the computer very easily.

Want to rename 200 files? You don't rename them by hand like a monkey
but you write a simple shell script in ten seconds to do it for
you. This is how you spare your time.

Want to make CPU-intensive operations one after the other, and shut down
the PC at the end? You can. You don't want to shut down the PC but you
want to print a big banner onto the screen? You can. The computer is
under your control, you are not limited to what was expected by the
original authors of the programs you use, you can combine them and
eventually modify them.

Linux also encourages your creativity and you will enjoy using your
computer.

Using Linux is like learning Kung-Fu, using Windows is like subduing to
a pimp.

What I find amusing about the "how much is your time worth" whine is how
totally wrong-headed it is.

Which OS needs incessant hand-holding, everything from ensuring your AV
apps are up to date to defragging your drives? It ain't Linux.

Which OS forces you to choose between Server vs Desktop editions, making
it nigh-on impossible to develop and test anything serious on a single
development system? It ain't Linux.

Which OS makes you do all your upgrades one app at a time, often with
reboots between each? It ain't Linux.

Which OS makes you go out and hunt down all your tools, one by one, and
do the installs one by one, while in many cases recommending you shut
down all your apps while the install is happening, so you can't get
things done? It ain't Linux.

Which OS requires you to shut down an app you're using, just because
you're upgrading it? It ain't Linux.

Which OS requires you to reboot after upgrading any of a number of
trivial items, be they web browsers or media players and the like? It
ain't Linux.

Which OS makes you physically go to a server to log out an unused
session, simply because some totally artificial paper-based limitation is
in place, rather than letting you simply log in and get things done? It
ain't Linux.

Which OS makes you, if your driver discs are missing or damaged, go
hunting all over hell's half-acre to find drivers to get your hardware
going? It ain't Linux.

Which OS is famous for having driver packages which are 50MB and more in
size, because they bundle 173 useless bits of dross instead of just
giving you the damned drivers? Usually, one might note, forcing both a
needless wait to install the dross and pointless timewasting to remove
it. It ain't Linux.

Which OS still lacks a full collection of useful CLI tools for everything
from text processing to system management, thus necessitating the use of
generally annoying GUI tools to do what should be trivial tasks? It
ain't Linux.

Which OS forces you to expend considerable effort parsing the idiocies of
their user agreements whenever you decide to modify your system, lest you
invalidate your license and no longer be able to legally use the OS? It
ain't Linux.

Which OS has caused many, many billions of dollars in damages, much of
which is specifically lost time and work, thanks to the viruses, worms
and other attacks it has because its security model was designed by
Tinkertoy? It ain't Linux.

How much is our time worth? Far too much to dick around with that other
toy OS, at least until it grows up into a real tool instead of something
which should really be restricted to running on the Barbie computer.

AV apps update themselves... and defragging is not really an issue on NTFS,
at least in most cases.

Test? Most people run apps. Period.

Reboots to update each app... um, what apps?

What apps are you thinking of?

I have seen this plenty of times on Linux. And reboots, too.

I update media players and browsers often without rebooting. On OS X,
Windows and Linux.

No OS makes you do that.

Android is proving Linux is no more immune than is Windows.

What's even funnier, is the flatfish troll whines "How much is your time
worth" & yet *its* time can't be worth much as it spends all of it
posting to a newgroup of an OS it hates. Even when it's binned, it
nymshifts to continue its whining. So flatfish's time can't be worth
much, & the troll must not have anything else to do.

I doubt he even "hates" Linux. "Hadron" hates Linux. Flatshit is

   Quite a bit.

This is pretty much why I dumped WinDOS a long time ago and in general
try to avoid "pretty interfaces" that need to be baby sat too much.
