I vote for ""Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack. I went out for a ride and I never went back" When my whore ex-wife tried to sue me for divorce that's exactly what I did. Her lawyer brought her to her senses due to the overwhelming evidence I had regarding her whoring habits. The bottom line is she would have ended up paying me support. The good thing is we didn't have any kids. That's what I got for being an idiot and getting married at 19yo. I sold the house, bought a Vette and took off for the west coast. Never looked back. Last I heard she was in jail for embezzlement. Got to give her credit as I didn't think she was even that smart.

Got hitched at 30 myself and going to celebrate our sixth in July. Getting married that old gives you time to think about what you like, dislike and want out of a woman. At any younger age, you're mostly just marrying her looks. -- Slimer OpenMedia, GreenPeace Supporter & SPCA Paw Partner Encrypt.

My upbringing sucked because my parents were cold, never complimented me, encouraged me or anything so the first girl that came along and filled that need in me was the one. Real stupid. Fortunately for me it was a learning experience and no real harm done. I went back to school and have a great career these days. I also have many friends and a wonderful social life.

It wasn't a girlfriend or a wife that I needed as much as a loyal companion. Of course, my wife is awesome so I'm not complaining. For me, it was important that whoever I married would love me despite my numerous flaws and that I would improve myself through her which is exactly what happened. It was also important that we marry in a church where friends, family and God could hear the words "for better or for worse til death do us part" from the both of us. I'm spiritual in that sense and am glad that I was able to find a person who matched that. As for the marriage not working out, everything is a learning experience either way. If that one didn't work out, it doesn't mean that life isn't reserving something a lot better for you down the road. The right person tends to come when we least expect it. At the end of the day though, relationships aren't for everyone anyway... as I essentially stated with my dog comment. :) -- Slimer OpenMedia, GreenPeace Supporter & SPCA Paw Partner Encrypt.

I'm not going to waste my valuable time digging around dejanews to find all of your crushing defeats. :) Who knows the exact number? One of the quirks of travel is if there's additional "rules" added for if a particular place will/won't be counted. Ours is that one must leave airport security, and then either sleep overnight or at least have a meal (YMMV). -hh

I didn't free-climb the White Cliffs of Dover, but I did drive right in front of them and park as near as possible and got out to look at them in person. Does that count?

I don't know if you're being facetious or not, but the niche market that the iCultists and WinDrones almost always talk about is Photoshop (to which, in this case, has been added iPhoto and some other iProgram -- I can't remember the name of now). Photoshop is a $700 (or so) commercial program. It's definitely not an application that "adds up" to a large chunk of the market. If you're in a particular industry that uses it -- printing, photo studio and a few other niche markets -- then, yes, it's used at a large percentage of shops in these PARTICULAR fields and on particular computers in those shops. But still, definitely, a niche product. As for the iPrograms, even if every Mac user installed them, it would still add up to a very small percentage of all computer users. In other words, it's another niche market. If you need Photoshop and iWhatever, and don't feel like any of the native Linux substitutes will do the job for your -- fine -- use OS X or Windows. But don't pretend because you need a small percentage niche market application that the majority of all computer users need it. -- To WinDrones and iCultists obsessed with Linux. Get a life.

It is a distinct possibility that chrisv finally got whiff of a free clue when he read that there's been 1.3 Billion iOS devices sold, which also means a roughly comparable number of Mac/PC users running iTunes. And I say "Mac/PC" because 1.3 Billion is significantly larger than just the Mac marketshare. Considering that the estimates for total installed desktops is very roughly 2 Billion, the ramifications are that somewhere around roughly half of all personal computer users have used (or are still using) iTunes. > ...the niche market that the iCultists and WinDrones > almost always talk about is Photoshop ... Because of consistent claims that GIMP is fully its equal. > ... (to which, in this case, has been added iPhoto and > some other iProgram -- I can't remember the name of now). Adobe Lightroom, which is a multi-platform competitor to Apple. > As for the iPrograms, even if every Mac user installed them, it > would still add up to a very small percentage of all computer users. 1.3 Billion iOS devices, supported by iTunes (a multi-platform OS). > In other words, it's another niche market. Never mind all of the vague hand-waiving and "convenient" memory loss that Ron's been doing to get to this conclusion. > But don't pretend because you need a small percentage > niche market application that the majority of all > computer users need it. Unfortunately, RonB is trying to rail against a moot point, because the "niche" bar was already lowered to the much easier and mainstream "Joe Sixpack" centric use cases. Specifically, to use iPhoto, iTunes, Lightroom and others so that _equivalent_ Linux products could be nominated, along with the impartial third party reviews which actually would assess the validity of each equivalency claim made. But no Linux advocate has yet provided even but one equivalent candidate Linux app for consideration and discussion. At what point do we ask how much lower the bars need to be set for Linux? -hh

Incidentally, the reason people don't start listing equivalent apps from Linux is that they know you have a list of corner cases to bring up and say "see? they aren't equivalent". A lot of folks prefer Amazon and Netflix. Several years ago I used QuickTime to watch movie trailers -- but that was as close to iTunes as I ever came. I do, however, have an Amazon Prime account for music and video, have a NetFlix account, use Kindles and Nooks (and a Sony and Kobo) for reading, have my music stored on Google Music, and use Spotify (which, if I were going to specifically subscribe to a music service) would be the one I would pick. Not to mention everything you can watch and listen to on YouTube these days -- or Crackle, or Hulu, or even going directly to the CBS, ABC, NBC and other station's websites. Oh, and there's Vudu, where my wife watches her TV series and where we have some movies stored. So, am I missing iTunes? Not in the least. -- To WinDrones and iCultists obsessed with Linux. Let me add to the list all the fine channels of SomaFM. My favorites are DEFCON, Groove Salad, and Suburbs of Goa. There's a metric assload of streaming channels out there. -- A sharper perspective on this matter is particularly important to feminist thought today, because a major tendency in feminism has constructed the problem of domination as a drama of female vulnerability victimized by male aggression. Even the more sophisticated feminist thinkers frequently shy away from the analysis of submission, for fear that in admitting woman's participation in the relationship of domination, the onus of responsibility will appear to shift from men to women, and the moral victory from women to men. More generally, this has been a weakness of radical politics: to idealize the oppressed, as if their politics and culture were untouched by the system of domination, as if people did not participate in their own submission. To reduce domination to a simple relation of doer and done-to is to substitute moral outrage for analysis. -- Jessica Benjamin, "The Bonds of Love"
