I'm now using a new SSD and new nVidia GTX card installed Win7 with no issues whatsoever live-booted Fedora 23 - ran OK from live CD did hard drive install, which said successful rebooted logged in started loading for a few seconds then total system lock hard-boot, retry, same thing MS is doomed. Linux won/is winning/will win.

I wasn't there holding his hand, so I can't say what he did wrong. Odds are it's video driver related though, since the problem doesn't show until he tries to load a desktop. I would bypass the GUI login and take a look at the xorg log. Maybe the problem was choosing Fedora to begin with. Whining about Fedora problems is like whining about having problems with Debian Sid. In other words, it's a crapshoot. It might work today and break tomorrow.

The install went cleanly and said it was successful. What could I have screwed up? My subsequent Manjaro install using the same partitions went fine. It boots normally. On that one, the LiveCD boot has a 'use non-free drivers' option, which it probably installs for you.

Take a look at Korora, it's a re-spin with some of the extras Fedora doesn't offer out of the box. For whatever reason, 2 systems of mine that barfed on Fedora worked fine with Korora.

Don't use new hardware for Linux, takes time till the unpaid hobbyists figure out and reverse engineer the Windoze drivers and even more time till the Linux Distro retailers steal it from them... Sadly, the hardware manufactures are in bed with M$ only... If yo want to mess with Linux, go buy some oldie second hand comp in Godwill or ask GodHesDumb to send you some ;-) It's doable on recent hardware, but don't expect automatic installation. You got to hack things and it's better to learn some programming and do it with something like Gentoo, Arch, LFS rather than waste time with downloading and trying many different distributions, that's the way the dumbasses are dealing with their lack of brainpower using the "brute force" approach ;-)
