But you when don't stick to principles it makes it very hard to take you seriously. You have to be willing to be honest even when it works against you. Based on what I opine, as you just saw, this guy likely has no concept that I'm a Linux user. He likely expects that I will say anything and do anything to push some agenda forward. I don't have an agenda to push forward. And neither should you. I get you like Windows. I'll be the first to say use what you you like. I have no problem with anyone using Windows. I have no problem with people working for Microsoft or Apple and making a living doing so. Even if they get very rich. It's not my concern. If you read me on other groups I have mentioned before that I am NOT a Linux advocate. I am a Linux user. Well, I guess that depends are your definition of advocacy. I don't just say to the world, you should use Linux. You should use whatever you like. I like UNIX. Always have. If I need to use Adobe applications then guess what, I'm going to use a Mac. That's the end of that. Do I need Adobe products all the time? No. And I'd say I seriously doubt Linux users in general are the same crowd of people that would need Adobe products. Linux users are very likely to be developers or administrators or those that like and want a UNIX type of operating system. If that's not you I'm not going to recommend Linux to you. I hope that's clear. I've always said that since the day I got on Usenet. Now this kid is angry. I'm telling him he's wrong and he doesn't want to hear it. He wants to be right. He won't look at Google, he won't admit to being wrong and so I can't take him seriously. Don't you do the same thing? I'm not personally trying to be your enemy or anyone else's. Actually Snit and I have much in common, but he doesn't know it. Under different circumstances we might have been friends. This may come as a shock but my best friend uses a Mac. We aren't tearing each other's eyes out. You know I own a lot of Macs right? And I even own two Windows phones, a Surface pro, a Surface RT and a Dell Windows 8" tablet. But then I also own several Android tablets, including a Transformer, which has Vim key cap stickers all over it. Cause I like Vim. And I have an iPad and an iPhone. And they are recent, not old. My iPhone is a 6. And I have the latest iPad right before the Pro 9.7" was announced. So I am now officially one generation old. I have their watch. But I also have and backed Pebble for the Pebble Time Steel and I have the first Android watch that was released. I have an Ubuntu phone believe it or not and I do use it. And if you read me I said some pretty bad things about it. It needed to be said. It's not ready like it is. But it's not a horrible product and I applaud Canonical for having the balls to try. So if you are going to attack this guy do so by addressing what is wrong with his conclusion. Point out why he is wrong. Stick to the topic. Don't make it ugly. Just pretend we're all at a party and we're talking by the dip eating chips. Keep it civil. I appreciate what you said a post back by the way. I'm also sorry for things I am sure I've said. Someone attacks I attack back. One thing I do not do is hold grudges. I never have and I hope I never will. I don't care how mean someone was to me. If tomorrow they wish to start over and clean that's okay with me. -- Marek Novotny https://github.com/marek-novotny

You have to be willing to be honest even when it works against you. I am. Notice how Carroll, who has by his own admission been stalking me for over a decade (he calls it other things, but it is exactly that - stalking) has failed to find examples of me lying. Instead he posts quotes from others AND himself (including many socks) saying bad things ABOUT me. He has been trying since 2004 to catch me in lies and fails. He even goes on about how these people are "witnesses" to the lies... but then fails to quote the lies. The herd does much the same: they claim I am lying but they NEVER quote any lies. They say my noting how I do not use socks is a lie... but then never show that I have posted to COLA with any name other than Snit. It is not as though I have never faltered, but I do a very good job of sticking to the high ground. > Based on what I opine, as you just saw, this guy likely has no > concept that I'm a Linux user. I do not excuse laziness... I think that is a misrepresentation of what I
and people on the left generally want to do. No. I want to make a STRONGER
tie between hard work / productivity and financial reward. Right now people
are being more productive but getting less. This discourages people from
working. Right now most of the new wealth in the country is going to the
wealthiest people.
There is a lot of complexity to it but I think these cover the basics well
and in a very digestible form:
<http://imgur.com/a2BEHjL>, <https://goo.gl/9etB7G>
We have to fix this. If we do not there is less and less incentive to work.
And we have to stop socializing the costs and risks of the wealthy.
I also think the idea of fair contracts needs to be recognized as something
that is not natural. There is no "natural" market. We have to have
government intervention to back human rights and equality. If not you have
people pushed to enter contracts under duress: sign or literally go hungry,
homeless, and possibly even die.
I also support helping those truly in need - and my definition of that might
be broader than yours. But I suspect that where we differ on that is a very
small amount of money compared to what the rich get with their socialized
support... literally just a few pennies, or less, to every dollar the rich
get.
Anyway, no need to reply to this and not looking for a debate... just making
clear my views. They most certainly are NOT in any way a defense of people
not doing what they can to take care of themselves or in any way backing
laziness.

To me, it shows that in 1971 about 1% of the population made over $200K in 2014 dollars. And in 2015, nearly 8% of the population made over $200K in 2014 dollars. And across the board the number of people making over $100K appears to have at least doubled, while the number of people making less than $100K dropped by a similar amount. All of that makes sense in terms of incomes rising to keep up with inflation.

And across the board the number of people > making over $100K appears to have at least doubled, while the number of > people making less than $100K dropped by a similar amount. All of that > makes sense in terms of incomes rising to keep up with inflation. Look at the header of the chart. It is inflation corrected dollars. It shows MASSIVE income redistribution... to the rich. The middle class is shrinking and the rich are getting their money, even as the middle class becomes more and more productive. In simple terms: when you weaken the tie of hard work / productivity with financial gain you end up with lots of problems: * Less incentive to work * More people out of work even if they want * Even hard working people getting less because the middle class shrinkage means less people to buy their goods and services * Greater social unrest * More people in prison And the solution, while having devils in the details, is not that hard: work to improve the tie between hard work / productivity and reward. This means making sure you have strong worker protections including safety and minimum wage laws (without those you WILL end up socializing the wealthy). With this you have the money in the hands of those who earn it, and those people tend to spend most of it. The wealthy tend to NOT spend and thus the economy suffers. We also need to make sure we invest in the future of our country: roads, data, power (including moving to green energy as quickly as possible), education, health care, etc. If we want to compete with other countries then we have to do this. All of this is pretty much common sense... to me it seems odd anyone would find it objectionable. I can understand the detailed being debated... but the basic idea of investing in the future and backing equality seems like a no-brainer to me. -- * OS X / Linux: What is a file? <http://youtu.be/_dMbXGLW9PI> * Mint MATE Trash, Panel, Menu: <http://youtu.be/C0y74FIf7uE> * Mint KDE working with folders: <http://youtu.be/7C9nvniOoE0> * Mint KDE creating files: <http://youtu.be/N7-fZJaJUv8> * Mint KDE help: <http://youtu.be/3ikizUd3sa8> * Mint KDE general navigation: <http://youtu.be/t9y14yZtQuI> * Mint KDE bugs or Easter eggs? <http://youtu.be/CU-whJQvtfA> * Easy on OS X / Hard on Linux: <http://youtu.be/D3BPWANQoIk> * OS / Word Processor Comparison: <http://youtu.be/w6Qcl-w7s5c>
