I have pretty much perfected my Linux site template. And, I am pretty satisfied with the index page.

Ultimately - My sig will change with pages written 100% by Moi.

Ooooh! NOT

DooFuS' drivel does not rate an Ooooh!

Once Moi is satisfied with a few of his pages, I shall release the URL.

Naturally, it will be a while before all 8 pages are up.

I spoke too soon on the CSS. I forgot about centering it, or keeping the page from breaking down on super wide monitors by stretching out too far.

I wasted a heck of a lot of time splitting over hairs. Came up with something that kind of worked on the right side. Then my page footer got out of sync with the content above it. Now, the footer is back in sync.

I have had it with screwing around with the CSS.

It more or less works even though it is pretty much aligned to the left, if not completely all around centered. The header is centered, while the body of content is aligned to the left.

As Moi loves to say. It is good enough, so screw the CSS crap!!!

Yet, more CSS tweaking.

I am using only 2 columns of a heavily edited, debugged, and changed 3 column WP theme external CSS file.

These Linux pages of mine are still of a 100% CSS design.

Ooooh!

First of all, to hell with smart phones, tablets, and touch screens. None of my Web sites are designed to work with that hardware. That is a given.

Old age has made Moi aware of the fact that my default fonts were too small. So, I just now increased their size a bit.

So, here is my CSS load down.

I tweaked maximum page width to be fixed at 1200 pixels, with the CSS max-width command.

Left side bar is 20% width at a max-width of 200 pixels.
Main content is 80% width at a max-width of 1000 pixels.

Browser width is assumed to start out at 75% zoom.

My layout checks out well on monitors between 15 and 19 inches in size.

On a wide monitor, the Page Header slightly breaks down at 110% browser zoom. The CSS max-width commands don't seem to work, absolutely, but helps to reduce the madness of visitors using a super super wide monitor.

Everything should work well with super wide monitors. If it don't then that is YOUR problem Jack.

My posting on this THREAD is designed to benefit Moi, rather than the COLA trolls, of course.

Now, that I have once again woke up my brain regarding my CSS external file, I can now once again forget all about it - LOL.

That is how it goes with this CSS crap. Work with it, and you know what the heck is going on. But, put it aside for a few years, and you forget all about it.

Now, it will be ALL about writing Linux content - LOL.

Ooooh! All the trolls on COLA are doomed.

Of course, now I have to refresh myself with all the neat CSS classes that I added way back when for writing spiffy content.

If DooFuS don't like Moi's approach, THEN he can go fuck himself. As far as I am concerned, DooFuS's pooch is screwed. The new Linux Sheriff is back in town.

Are you also using internal styles, or worse, inline styling?

Add to that, a lot has changed on the CSS front in that time.

You've definitely carved out a place for yourself in COLA, "Sheriff" ;)

It's great that you're working on learning more about CSS but, at this point (and the point in time you'll probably be done), you might as well start looking at flex box to see if it fits the bill with your layout issue; it'll save you a ton of time (and headache) over things you *think* you've figured out but really haven't. After 7 years it's finally gaining more widespread adoption:

http://naturalhealthperspective.com/css/fluid-linux.css

What is NOT to love?

Admittedly, this external CSS file could use some cleaning up. Whether or not a particular coding works correctly often depends upon its place in this massive file.

At one point, I wanted to imitate a WP Blog on a static site. That turned out to be a very bad idea.

For starters... the lack of shorthand. Things like:

margin-top: 6px;
margin-bottom: 12px;

Could be written as:

 margin: 6px 0 12px 0

Saves characters and reduces the rule count. And why are you using id instead of class to apply style rules? T's a better practice to save the id for when you want to target with javascript. You're also using fixed widths and font sizes, not good in a mobile world unless you want to write separate sheets. And what's up with the "line-height: 100%;"? Just specify it globally and deviate when necessary. There are other issues but these should be dealt with first in my opinion.

Why? For the most part, all you need to do is replace the hooks for dynamic content with static content.

Then I would not be able to decode any of it, NOT only today, but 5 years from now.

You're also using fixed widths and font sizes, not good in a mobile world unless you want to write separate sheets. And what's up with the "line-height: 100%;"? Just specify it globally and deviate when necessary. There are other issues but these should be dealt with first in my opinion.

Decode? WTF are you talking about? And why do you call that thing "fluid" when there is nothing fluid about it?

It is 1,116 lines long at present. A lot of the coding, I am NOT using. I just don't have the time to clean the mess up.

Why are you using it at all? Just start from scratch and build what you want. You can get a CSS reset and go from there.

Why don't you re-build your house from scratch? That way you get exactly what you want.

I got a great deal on the Brooklyn Bridge. It is especially made for you.

LOL! I even built yours, fool... a good chunk of it anyway... and it took all of 20 minutes.

http://demsites.atwebpages.com/troll

Resize the screen in your browser, from a few inches to full width.. then look at how much CSS *isn't* in there. I'm not claiming this is the best example of CSS in the world but I did it to point you in the right direction... obviously no one has ever been able to do that ;)
