Seems many on the left believe he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Even his dean is publicly accusing him of lying. In the only article specifically referenced by the Dean as shown in the campus News Release, here: <https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2016/november/email-correspondence-between-professor-michael-rectenwald-and-de.html> The prof's statement read: "Two days after the interview and the same day as the response, I was summoned by my dean, via email, to meet that afternoon. I accepted, and when we spoke in person, to my surprise, he stated (for my ears only) that the meeting had nothing to do with the interview or the Twitter account. Rather, he said (after a representative of NYU human resources joined our conversation), certain unidentified members of the staff or faculty had expressed concern for my well-being. Suffice it to say that I was strongly encouraged to take a paid leave of absence and that, according to the administration, it had nothing to do with my recent media posture. That’s not exactly how I see it." <https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2016/11/03/campus-pc-culture-is-so-rampant-that-nyu-is-paying-to-silence-me/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.a04e46574dc1> If you've been called into a meeting with HR and you're asking for leave, isn't there supposed to be some kind of written document of you asking for leave if you're the one initiating that leave? Seems to me the dean would've made sure such a document was included in the campus News Release. The prof saying he "needs" the leave doesn't mean he wasn't "strongly encouraged" to take it beforehand. Did the prof ask for the meeting? According to him, he was summoned by my dean" and that doesn't appear to be challenged in the News Release.

Speaking as a real educator (not whatever Snit does), I can confidently claim that exposing yourself as anything right of centre is suicide. Logic and reason are no longer a part of the education system and the mob dictates that every teacher must be as Communist as Lenin was. If you aren't, they _will_ get you fired or killed. -- SilverSlimer Ubuntu 18.04 on MSI GT72 2QD Proudly blocking Facebook, Twitter and Youtube Liberals will be killfiled

If you > aren't, they _will_ get you fired or killed. From the News Release (by the dean): "The fact of the matter is that this leave has nothing to do with your opinions or your take on the academy and was not involuntary; rather, the truth is, the leave is something you said you wanted and needed." Well, someone is obviously lying here, the question is who. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, I don't see a reason for a meeting with someone from HR. if you're just asking the dean for leave. It's odd to me that, after having read the prof's article (which the dean referenced specifically) the dean didn't deny that the prof was "summoned", nor did he deny that HR was present in the meeting. Couple that with the fact that there is no documentation of the prof *initiating* the request for leave (isn't this how it's done if you're asking?), officially or even in email and it's looking like the dean is the one who's full of it. It's also odd that the dean wrote: "You indicated that you thought a leave from NYU would be a good idea and you took affirmative steps to make that happen." Why not talk about these alleged "affirmative steps"? If you're trying to convince the reader of something isn't it considered a good idea to include evidence that would convince them, at the least, a mention of prof's written request, verified by the HR person the prof claimed was in attendance? The dean also wrote: "We don't give leaves or sanctions because of people's Twitter feeds. For us to be clear on your needs, we require you to state unequivocally and in a direct, unambiguous response whether you still need the leave you requested." We... not just the dean... "We". Wouldn't the formalizing of such a request, for the purposes of "We", who may subsequently view the request being *claimed* to be for what "we require", necessitate the writing/signing of it? Commons sense dictates if such a document existed at the time of the email exchanges being made public to the News Release, why wasn't it mentioned or, better, included if that was legally possible. What's next? They'll gen up some "evidence" a la Snit (it *already* looks like a Snit job)? Maybe there's more to this story but something definitely stinks at NYU and it's not as one sided as is being portrayed. Looks to me they were giving him the ol' shuffle off to Buffalo routine and he pushed back by staying on leave.

Being the dean of liberal studies, I suppose that's possible but it still seems odd to me that anyone would take this public with only a 'he said, he said' to back himself up. In my mind, if it's the prof who's lying it should be easy to prove, yet, the emails (which the dean somehow views as "proof") only serve to make the dean look like the liar. My Dad went to NYU on the G.I. bill, he's probably turning in his grave...
