Acer Chromebook 14. I bought it primarily for travel. I don't travel often, so didn't want or need anything particularly powerful. At 14", the screen is larger screen than most Chromebooks, and is only 1366x768, all of which makes it easier on old eyes. 1.60GHz Celeron CPU, 4GB RAM, and 16GB Flash. I think it's going to work well as the Web terminal that I intend to use it for. Performance is reasonably snappy. Of course, it boots quickly, and a claimed 14 hours run-time. It's got an all-aluminum case and is quite thin. Size-wise it's quite an improvement over the brick that I was carrying around, although not the tiniest thing out there, due to the 14" screen. Only $180! Amazingly inexpensive, for such a thing. I also bought a HP bluetooth mouse, which works great and leaves-open the two USB3 ports. -- "No one is afraid of Chrome Books. They are a qualified disaster. No one give or take, wants one. They are too limited. They provide NO beneft over a reasonable netbook/laptop other than maybe saving a few quid." - "True Linux advocate" Hadron Quack

Even though I will usually be using a mouse, I like that the top row of "function" keys are all Web optimized. Forward, back, reload, brightness, volume, etc. Sadly, my first attempt to download and run something from Google Play was a failure. Angry birds worked, though. Games are not important to me, in either case - I was just curious. I haven't given stuff like Google Docs a try yet, although I'm sure I will. Hopefully, the travel won't be sitting in an airline coach seat while trying to use it, as their reduction in seat pitch has made it miserably tight trying to do anything with a laptop (vs tablet). > >> At 14", the screen is larger screen than most Chromebooks, and > >> is only 1366x768, all of which makes it easier on old eyes. > >> 1.60GHz Celeron CPU, 4GB RAM, and 16GB Flash. Fortunately, USB thumb drives should be able to take care of some of the limited Flash memory limitations, as that's what historically was the first noticeable localized limiter on phones & tablets I've had. > >> I think it's going to work well as the Web terminal that I intend to use > >> it for. Again, mostly out of curiosity. Cloud based storage is an effective technique for extending a device beyond its local hardware limitations, but that invokes higher reliance on network connectivity, which is less reliable when on the road...but considering that a low profile 64GB USB thumb drives are now quite cheap (~$20), the cost to keep a localized copy is quite low. Good luck with it. -hh

Between Google Docs and LibreOffice, I would feel more comfortable with the latter. I don't need the additional functions of LibreOffice, but I feel more comfortable using a real program rather than a web application. I don't want to be working on a document for three hours only to have a web page time out and lose all of my progress (though I imagine that it saves the data every five minutes or so). -- SilverSlimer Ubuntu 18.04 on MSI GT72 2QD Never apologize Liberalism - One picture, one thousand words: https://kek.gg/i/4xGRhd.jpg Highly recommended reading: - Big Brother: The Orwellian Nightmare Come True (https://kek.gg/u/SrmB) - Questioning Islam: Tough Questions and Honest Answers About the Muslim Religion (https://kek.gg/u/35jND) "Well, I was wrong, for once." - snitv, being honest, for once.

I'm not a big fan of Google Docs either, but my wife uses it (which means I have to use it when editing her writing) and my kids use it, and their cousins use it. Personally, I would see if I could install JOE in the terminal and that would be my text editor/word processor. I think Chromebooks can support some terminal applications now, can't they? And, yeah, Google Docs saves constantly. So losing something is not likely to happen (unless you were working in offline mode) and your laptop took a crap on you. -- The more I see of Windows, the more I like Linux.

The other issue is that Google Docs saves to Google servers and I'm not sure that I want them to have anything of mine. I'd rather just save it on my hard disk and let it remain mine. You literally CANNOT stop yourself from making up stories about me, trying to speak for me, telling me (and others) what I believe no matter how incorrect it is, etc. Let me be clear: you CANNOT stop yourself. You simply do not have the ability to. -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. Then why'd you ask to see his "private" thoughts and suggest that he was hiding something when the context is more that of 'backing it up' in case his private thoughts get removed? > but I think you misunderstood why I was asking the question. What you wrote was crystal clear, you're the only one who doesn't understand it. You suggested SS was afraid of sharing something and you wanted to hear his "private" thoughts... all because you saw the word "conservative". You then even flatly admitted as much. We all know that you'll now whine like a stuck pig and try to strong arm reality. Notably, you don't even recognize when you're blatant partisan idiocy rears its ugly head. You see the word "conservative" and, in your mind, that's a green light for removing the context of reality and privacy.
