I commend him for it. LOL! Here's something to help you grow the clue... Look at this response by you: <Message-ID: <fk9jb0FbtulU2@mid.individual.net> Now look at the previous one of yours on the same issue: <Message-ID: <fk9hcfFbg34U2@mid.individual.net> Had you come at me like you did in the first one people may not be talking about kf'ing you all the time. Given what you had written, the question I asked was reasonable and you figured that out before your second response. I'm a 3rd party looking at two guys who both seemed interested in their own thing. When I see that I give them equal weight, you'll notice I'm doing the same thing with owl on another aspect of the same topic, an aspect you're interested in. He might disagree with my take but he didn't react like you did. Normally I'd say to you... Hint: You TOTALLY focused on yourself. BUT... you actually thought about it, came back and were much more reasonable on the second pass. So the statement you just made about me? It looks more like you're projecting than what you're claiming. Yeah, I know, you can't stand when anyone point this kind of stuff out about you but you really did show some growth there... for a minute ;)

Again. Anyway, to get back to tech: I talked about the streamlining of annotations in a mail program. But developers, for some reason, want to do it all for all users. When I open my word processor do I need to become network aware? No. But LibreOffice now depends on Avahi, the GNU/Linux network discovery library. (Incidentally, Avahi is another concoction of that infernal son-of-a-bitch Poettering.) Why do I need a fucking tool to tell me what the fuck I already goddamn well know? I don't. But LO insists on forcing network awareness down my goddamned throat. If I need to network, if need to connect to a database, I should be able to do it myself. I don't need a plethora of daemons to "listen" to my every action and then respond. But that's how software is currently designed.

Funny enough, I think so too. I sometimes look at videos of the old Atari ST, Amiga and Commodore 64 and realize that if the Internet hadn't been an issue (for the C64) or web pages hadn't become so complex (for the Atari ST and Amiga), those ancient computers would still be able to serve the needs of most people. I've seen the word processors available for the two more recent machines and to be frank, I wonder what they were truly lacking that individuals would need. Of course, my needs were needed all too great.

Sandman:
-----
I would love to see the group become that! I would love to see
people, for example, pick tasks they do with Desktop Linux which
they believe are handled better than the competition. I have
encouraged that for a long time. But so far few if any such tasks
have been shown.
-----
Marek Novotny:
-----
Linux is a Server, A Cloud, A service, A mobile Platform, A
developers dream come true, A super cluster, a Main frame and a
DESKTOP. It's not JUST a desktop. You're a two-bit bullshit coward
who refuses to face what Linux actually is. It's too much for you,
obviously.
-----
Sandman (referencing to the above quote):
----
But it is not all of those things. Not even close. It is USED by
those things but it is NOT those things.
-----
Marek Novotny (some time later):
-----
Android isn't Linux. Android makes "use" of the Linux kernel.
Android is indeed open source, but it is not community driven open
source. Those that know the difference likely won't cry over Android
ditching the Linux kernel and adopting their own kernel. It simply
never mattered for all the reasons I stated above. Now the fact that
I have to articulate this in writing so these clueless tards like
DFS and Sandman can gain some insights because they LACK their
own insights is what I find troubling. They both have no business
arguing in here. They are simply too stupid to have a conversation
about that which they just don't fundamentally understand in the
first place.
-----
Notice Marek uses the concepts I taught him (about how Linux is "USED" by the things he listed) then fantasizes about how I did not know the information HE got wrong and I corrected him with (and did so with no name calling or insults).
Rhonda January Bass:
-----
I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I,I and if that wasn't enough, I,I,I,I,I,I.
Talk about a narcissistic fool.
-----
Sandman:
-----
You left out his I, I, I, I. AM. BETTER. THAN. Sandman AND DFS!
He is clearly feeling very insecure these days.
-----
Marek Novotny:
-----
Well, if he wants to play this game with me he'll find pictures of
his wife on imgur with dildos all over her and I can cross post
those too. Keep fucking around Sandman. I can play this game too.

For the 'average' user there probably isn't much. Traditionally, for the 'average' business user, the issue of training costs arises... as does the lowered production during the transition; but even as of 4-5 years ago that 'tradition' was being cast in a new(er) light: -- "The firm carried out a 3-month analysis of Office suite use in 51 global firms representing 148,500 employees, revealing that seven out of ten employees weren’t using any single application heavily, launching them only for viewing or light editing. The average employee spent only 48 minutes per day using Office, largely the Outlook email client, which consumed about 68 percent of that activity. Excel was in second place with 17 percent, or an average of 8 minutes per day, leaving Word and PowerPoint trailing with only 5 minutes and 2 minutes per day each." <https://www.techworld.com/news/security/microsoft-office-applications-barely-used-by-many-employees-new-study-shows-3514565/> -- It's a good bet a chunk of their 48 minutes was spent checking FaceBook.

On one of our projects at work, we use OpenOffice (yes) as a "service" that runs during document conversion, converting all sorts of formats (including many that MSO does not support) into PDF. And the formats that OO cannot support, are converted by shelling out to ImageMagick. -- A morgue is a morgue is a morgue. Does ImageMagick handle anything other than image formats? I'm curious as to its true capabilities. When I used it to convert images a few years ago, it ended up being a lot more intuitive (once you learn what commands to use) than any GUI software.
