If he is in the wrong group, yes. I don't care if invented the group.
This group is for Linux advocacy. Those that advocate in here are in the
correct group. End of story.

Anti Linux people are here. And they should not be. I am quite used to
it. That is not the purpose of an advocacy group. If you like brawling
with them that's what a war room is for. You should create and migrate
to Linux vs. {otherOS} if that's how you feel.

These advocacy groups were created specifically to keep OS wars out of
other groups. If you can't tolerate Windoze or Mack tards countering your
advocacy in their own cute, pathetic way, *you* should find another group.

That sounds just like this...
If you, owl, can't tolerate me countering Windows and mac users in my
own way, you should find another group.

owl is correct that you'll get a reputation as a liar by stating your
*opinion*?

I simply did a little research on line and found that it is indeed
recommended that this sort of things stay in advocacy groups. His
comment that these groups are here to keep the others free of this type
of activity appears to be accurate. Given that I have to agree with him.
It's not me rolling over to please him. He just happens to have made an
argument that by all accounts appears to be correct. If I don't agree in
the face of being corrected then I am just stubborn and can't admit to
being wrong.

Well, this is what changed my view.
### Quote ################################
Usenet and other advocacy forums
Due to the often emotional nature of advocacy debate and its sometimes
narrow appeal to the wider user population, forums for discussion of
advocacy are often separate from those for general discussion. Under the
Usenet comp.os.* and comp.sys.* hierarchy, there are often *.advocacy
groups devoted exclusively to advocating their respective operating
systems. Some of these groups, such as comp.sys.amiga.advocacy, can
remain active even after their subject OS ceases to be a market force.
The Guide to the Windows newsgroups exhorts Usenet posters not to "get
involved in arguments about Windows vs. OS/2 vs. Macintosh vs. NeXTSTEP
except in the comp.os.ms-windows.advocacy group."[1]
Operating system advocacy discussions, on Usenet and elsewhere, have
spawned a variety of jargon describing commonly seen behaviour,
including "MicroDroid"[2] and "Amiga Persecution Complex".[3] The
emotional form and negative characteristics often associated with
operating system advocacy have led some to create guidelines explaining
what they consider to be positive advocacy, such as the Linux Advocacy
Guidelines[4] and the Guidelines for Effective OS/2 Advocacy.[5]

So your argument, whether you were screwing with me or not, holds up.

Unfortunately though, as you are probably aware, it doesn't really work,
Some of the trolls crosspost, especially into a.o.l.u & a.o.l, in an
attempt to disrupt those groups, & to drag the unwary into their "web".
They also infest those groups, & crosspost into c.o.l.a with the same
intent.
IMO your original statement of "they shouldn't be here" was right.
Unfortunately though, these are not moderated groups.

I agree that cross posting to other non-advocacy groups is not
appropriate at all. It would be nice if the disagreements were from
people make very good points and not just posting insanity for the sake
of getting a lot of replies for their amusement. Since this is
unmoderated all I can do is agree with that. Nothing I say or do will
stop jackasses from being jackasses. I could ignore them and hope
everyone else does. But I think they'll just change their name, build up
a new profile that is less vile for a while until their true nature
exposes itself again.
On a mailing list, and I won't say what it is, but we just kick people
off instantly. You post something trollish and you get removed just like
that. They will come back as other addresses and we'll kick them off
too. Pretty soon they give up and look for lower hanging fruit. This is
that lower hanging fruit.
You know I always hated moderators when I was younger. Now more and more
I wish they were here. But keep in mind, they don't always vote the way
you think they should. I've good clean arguments in which I finally felt
like I dealt the blow that killed the other argument, only to have a
moderator step in and stop it. And I of course felt like it was totally
unfair. I try to be less emotionally attached to things. If someone
kicks my ass in an argument then that's my own problem. I can't nor
should I expect to be right all the time. Lots of smart guys in here.
I am disappointed, a lot actually, that so many play dirty and refuse to
accept when others make excellent points. They tend to take advantage of
persons like myself when honesty is offered and use it against me. So I
don't like conceding a point because assholes tend to use it as ammo. So
I get why you or others may be pissed off at me for the change. That
being said I can't let the actions of others dictate who I am as a
person. If they want to be jackasses then that will show and I'll just
move on. I'd rather get to know those rare good people in the process
than become one of those people I dislike.

Nice to be able to converse, & not be bothered with trolls etc. I don't suffer fools gladly, hence why i have them blocked in here. Trolls don't like being ignored, but I care not a whit! > You know I always hated moderators when I was younger. Now more and more > I wish they were here.
