Oh it was speculation. See above. If you had scripts that were being
used to interact with usenet I would of course be interested in seeing

Not much to see, I use suck to populate a DB and I've built a web interface
(I'm a web developer) to read and post. I've also written a couple of scripts
to track Snit's trolling. Just for fun :)

Can you give a link to 'suck'?

It's hard to Google for.

That whole script bit was an obvious misdirection attempt, trying to spin the
"17 second repost" into allegedly being from someone else...and what's been
most revealing about the whole incident is the 'protest' which didn't happen.

...cue the obvious (& guilty) to promptly beg to be told just what he missed...

Yeah, it was stupid. But it's not the dumbest thing he's claimed after being
caught. When it was proven plain and simple that Snit posted to usenet using
the same comcast IP that one of his sock puppets (way back before he learned
about TOR), he came up with this nugget:

  Snit

I see some monthly states on some groups but I have no idea how they do
that. It's been a curiosity of mine to see the code.

I'm not the one posting the statistics, however. But the code is pretty
straightforward if I was to post stats, since I have all the data in a SQL
database.

This retrieves headers and body for a range of hard-coded article IDs,
and stores the data in a SQLite database. I use DB Browser for SQLite
to view the data.

Look in the code for "range(583302,583305)" Replace them with specific
article IDs. Not the best way to get the data, but this is just a demo.

But why connect to reader80 with a script? Isn't that for
a web client connection? They also list news.eternal-september.org
there on the standard port 119.

It was on the eternal-september site.

Is there a potential problem with using 80?

No. They appear to just have inn hanging off 80. I thought it
might be a web interface.
