This is a song about desktops." Well, it's pretty obvious where the desktop's been heading. Like I've been saying for a long time now, the desktop won't be the 'main' thing... as used by the general public. We've seen more and more evidence of that as time goes by. Realistically, Snit's 'arguments' boil down to the "average user" as a 'content creator', a thing that just isn't reality. > Only, it isn't. (I think most people > using Macs for development would tend to use macports to keep themselves > up-to-date, but that may be anecdotal experience.) Like I said, I like OS X but I can see the day when Apple changes it to the point where I'll switch (probably to Linux).

I very much like that part. But I really don't like the OS at all. Strange how that works. I just don't care for either of the two. Absolutely right on the money about Apple just dropping things. PowerPC, XRAID, XServe, Final Cut Pro suite, DVD Studio Pro, Shake, Expansion slots, Aperture and I am sure many more. Their customers are merely along for the ride. Of course they don't know what they want, Apple hasn't told them yet. -- Marek Novotny https://github.com/marek-novotny

A while back both sides of the group decided to see how it would fare if
all the trolls would leave for a month. This group just about
disappeared without the pros and cons discussions.

No, that isn't correct. Advocacy has to have the opposite view point in
order for advocacy to work. Otherwise, all you'd get is a ghost town.

What's to understand? Someone who simply posts some interesting topic about Linux, no mention of Microsoft, and he gets smothered by a lahar of shit about it. Someone provides an up-front story about a bug encountered in a Linux distro, even a bleeding edge one like Debian Sid, and he gets smothered by a lahar of shit about it. And mention something shaky about Microsoft, a Microsoft product, or a Microsoft chief officer? Forgetaboutit! I have these creeps killfiled, but every time I've stumbled across a thread here in Google Groups, I am aghast at the piling on of nastiness and childness these creeps emit. > Why are you even here? By pure assholes, whose crawlspaces should be checked for skulls. > Someone provides an up-front story about a bug encountered in a Linux > distro, even a bleeding edge one like Debian Sid, and he gets smothered > by a lahar of shit about it. Been there, saw that. When I posted about the failings of a certain audio driver -- as an example of how I could make fair-minded criticisms of Linux -- was that met with anything but a ration of shit? Note that the same people who spewed their shitsplats are those who claim Linux advocates never criticize Linux ever at all. You can't make this stuff up! > And mention something shaky about Microsoft, a Microsoft product, or a > Microsoft chief officer? Forgetaboutit! lxss, anyone?
