No offense but that was the most boring dungeon crawl EVER!

But whatever, how many experience points do I get?

I don't believe you when you say you found the diamonds. How were
you even able to begin to search 700 rooms. Didn't the terror of
so many choices make you freeze up? You're probably still just
standing there wishing you had taken the $1000.

You are the GM. You should be deciding. You left it up to me... so I decided
I did. Done.

> How were you even able to begin to search 700 rooms.

You asked: "What did you find in the first room?"

I found the gold there. I do not keep checking for diamonds.

> Didn't the terror of so many choices make you freeze up?

Between the diamonds and the gold. You seemed to get confused with that so
as soon as I found the gold, which was in the closest room (or if there were
multiple equally close I started on the left). Done and done.

Boring dungeon!

Where would you even get such an idea? Maybe you have been listening to the
straw men pushed by the herd?

You still have not answered the question. How is it that having 700 choices
did not overwhelm you?

Overwhelm? Why would it, esp. for the first few. Realistically, depending on
how hard it was to get to rooms, how big the reward, and other factors I may
have given up after X number of rooms. As would most. Not sure I would say
that was "overwhelming" - more just boring and not worth it.

Sort of like 700 Linux distros... though with those after you look at a few
you know the pattern: the ecosystem is very limiting and reduces choice of
how you can get actual tasks done. It provides you with the illusion of
choice but in terms of actual task completion there is actually LESS choice.
This is mostly true for the GUI, which is what most use, when you look at
the CLI Linux is as good as any... no complaints there.

The lack of real choice is one reason why desktop Linux does poorly. The
illusion of a lot of choice when those choices are mostly meaningless is
another. Systems which allow for but do not force many choices are generally
better... that is what I show with the print / edit PDF task I show... OS X
gives me more choices. I can do it as I would on Windows and Linux of saving
to PDF and then editing and printing, or I can use different choices
depending on how I am thinking at the moment. The extra choices are not
forced on you, and someone coming from Linux or Windows might not even know
of them, but they are easy to discover without being disruptive, and they
are relatively consistent from program to program, allowing users to put
these choices to great use. Compare that with desktop Linux where these
types of choices are less common, and when they do exist they exist more
often in isolation where their usefulness is heavily reduced.

You left out most of the context:
    -----
Overwhelm? Why would it, esp. for the first few. Realistically,
depending on how hard it was to get to rooms, how big the reward,
and other factors I may have given up after X number of rooms. As

    -----

I think you started trying to push a point (arguing against a straw man) and
are now seeing why your analogy does not really paint the picture you want.

Right... I talked about the moral / political considerations.

And how does one know there is no trickery? The mage or wealthy patron or
whatever he is who set this task up, just yesterday, insisted he was going
to magically make an entire branch of science no longer be a science! How
can you trust such a person?

I was assuming mostly empty rooms in a hallway... so very quick checks. But,
sure, you might have oddly shaped rooms, huge rooms, rooms with other things
in them - not tricks but things to make it harder. And if you do not this is
a really boring adventure!

Is your cost of the diamonds even close? Seems low to me but I have no real
idea. Damn, can I make an appraisal check before even finding them?

Marek saw this as a race (maybe it is?) and already walked though the rooms.
He said he found the diamonds but we need a GM ruling on it. Personally I
think we were lied to and Marek fell though a trap into a pit of lava. He
should have brought his 10 foot pole!

But then they became gold. I went to the first room, you asked ME what I
found. I found the gold.

And a goblin... but he was easily dealt with. I am a high level character!

There are no diamonds... While others were worried about what they
couldn't do, I was busy locating and removing the diamonds...

Are they blood diamonds/conflict diamonds?

I'll work EXTRA hard for those...

They're all starving because there are too many different things you can
eat and they just can't decide. Too bad Steve Jobs died and now there
isn't anyone to tell them which computer to buy every 12 months.

If you boneheads need help, just ask. I'll tell you what to buy from
now on. Don't worry about it fitting your needs cause I'll tell you
what your needs are from this day forward.

I'll tell you what and when to eat, when to shit, when to sleep and
what to do.

You're welcome.

It's funny that you mention food, because I had thought of modifying
the test to take place after SHTF, the zombies are at the gates, and you
have 699 rooms with diamonds, and one room with a year's supply of food,
water, guns, ammo, medical supplies, and a puppy. You can search
the rooms or take this knife and sandwich and be on your way.

They forget there is this concept conformity. Often the choice people
make is to conform to what others have already done.

In any case, choosing something, even if the choice is to conform
is still a choice.
