"tin" doesn't have 1% of the features Mozilla Thunderbird has. You can write JavaScript extensions for Thunderbird, for one thing, and you can write CSS rules for both the GUI and the posts/emails. My newsreader, Jeff-Relf.Me/X.ZIP, is Visual C++ that I wrote myself; nothing could be more custom, I assure you. Most of us would've been banned long ago from any moderated web forum. I tried to make one innocuous post to linuxadvocates.com and he banned me (by innocuous I mean I was mocking Dietrich Schmucktz for begging).
