OK. Party on then. And you share MORE of your fantasizes about me. Please: try to talk about technology. Here, to help you: You asked why Notepad, a low end consumer focused text tool, would not handle huge files that most people would never encounter or use... and those that would, as even you note, would be more likely to use an actual feature-rich text editor such as vim. I noted that the developers likely would not take much time to make sure it can handle such files because the use-cases of such would be rare: the general user would have no need or desire for such a tool, not that it doing so would harm them in any way and I certainly would not be against it working with such files. Given how they already worked to make it work with larger files than you first claimed clearly they spent SOME time on this. Not worth it to make it handle files it is likely not going to be used with anyway. The MS developers did *nothing* to make Notepad handle larger files. They just recompiled it The original Notepad from Win3x could only handle files up to 64K in size. Because that size was the limitation of the Edit-widget used to supply the actual editor window. Later versions could handle larger files because they were compiled with he newer 32bit editor widget And now suck some more donkey balls. You will learn about as much for subjects like these doing just that. You are extremely incompetent, and all your posts about these subjects show that fact

My example just happened to be on topic.
In general, it's a good example of "arbitrary limits" that have always
plagued WinDOS from the original 640K memory limit to the number of tuners
you are allowed to have in WMC.
You would think that Microsoft would learn it's lesson after only 30 years.

Hey. let's judge all of desktop Linux by the utter garbage known as KDE! Or maybe we can judge it by LibreOffice. Or by any of the other sub-standard products which are adequate at best but do not compete well with the competition. Really: we can judge desktop Linux by its best-of-class desktop apps compared to the pedestrian apps on the competition and Linux makes a poor showing. JEDIDIA will no doubt disagree. So, fine. Let's ACTUALLY compare. I do here: * OS / Word Processor Comparison: <http://youtu.be/w6Qcl-w7s5c> A true common task done on the three environments. And Linux makes a horrid showing. As I have noted, even if you stick to just LibreOffice, it STILL does more on the competition than it does on Linux. And it is the low end product on the competition, not the high end like it is on Linux. So what say you, JEDIDIA: you prepared to actually pick some tasks and compare? Here are tasks I picked before which you and your herd ran screaming from: * From a single online recipe (or art project, lesson plan, whatever) save it and email a PDF version where you add notes to it. Now I know this can be done on Linux; save, open, edit, email. Just curious to see how you people would generally do it and how streamlined the workflow would be. A couple ways I might: <https://youtu.be/NPM_WldEBs0>. * Make a video, as Owl and I have been, but with cursor replacement / resizing (post production), window highlighting, zooming, arbitrary area highlighting. For me these were done just to show something else: <https://youtu.be/aSNpnYpmKag>. I have many other options but picked these because they fit the real-world example I did shortly before coming up with the "challenge". * Getting a WayBackArchive page and getting images of all links, the HTML validation and CSS validation from W3.org, and a active link to the archive page, as I did here (does not have to look the exact same, of course): <http://tmp.gallopinginsanity.com/sandman/sandman-archive.pdf>. On OS X the first two are easy. The third was a bit harder and more time consuming. But you cannot figure out how to do any of them on Linux. >>> In general, it's a good example of "arbitrary limits" that have always >>> plagued WinDOS from the original 640K memory limit to the number of tuners >>> you are allowed to have in WMC. >> >> DOS is not relevant to this conversation. Bad engineering is bad engineering and a poor reflection on the
rest of the system and the company.
This leads to cockups like the registry and general foot dragging when
it comes to creating a modern robust system. Even then, the crapulence tends
to carry on with similar new problems cropping up and classic ones reappearing.

If you're used to dealing with "serious computing", that's not really the
sort of insult you think it is. The fact that this kind of argument excites
you just demonstrates how fundementally clueless you both are.

You might not see that as an insult. Fine. I see the auto-read lasted an entire weekend in which I did not post.

Why would YOU "judge Windows 10 based on how notepad works"? Keep in mind that is YOUR idea. I wouldn't. I didn't create this thread, or the hilariously wrong video. You did. Then you whined that Microsoft not updating notepad was a big deal. Now you're claiming it's not. Because you're a hypocrite and a liar. So the auto-read was just a big lie too I see. I'm sure you'll snip this out and just prove me right.
