Hang around for a while and you'll see why that dumbass is called Dumb
Willie:
* "Astounding! A tailwind reduces lift?!?!?! How in hell does a kite
fly then?"
heh!
* "I still laugh at Message-ID Larry "thinking" I was a 'chrisv' sock,
& I wasn't even on the same continent at the time!"
Dumb Willie, who's been on Usenet for a decade at least, still thinks
Usenet sockpuppets require 2 different people posting from the same
geographic location. What a blithering moron.
* "According to http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm there are
6,499,697,060 worldwide computer users." (Feb 2012)
Even a 7-year old knows that's the approx. population of the Earth. Dumb
Willie isn't as educated or intelligent as a 7-year old.
* the idiot claimed a 2004 post of mine was "20th Century candidate
for dumbest post".
Hey Dumb Willie, did you hear 2004 is in the 21st century?
Dumb Willie is the dumbest poster on cola, and has been for a long time.
And that's no exaggeration.

I'll admit that I occasionally look in the "snubbery" when I see something quoted, and want to see the original post. But for the most part, plenty of advocates killfile the dillwads, so they see a different view of the group than someone casually looking in. If folks actually pursued enforcing the charter, the group would be much more attractive to casual browsers. I actually suggested that, and got RL threats by clueless morons. They have their clown fiesta, and damaged consciences, so they will cling to their behaviors as long as they possibly can. -- -v "Desktops, workstations and servers are and Microsoft is doing very well. You didn't merely just 'goof'... and you're lying about this topic *again*. Courtesy of DFS, here is a summary of some of the things you're now falsely labeling a 'goof': <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!original/comp.os.linux.advocacy/7VP0pwO1eDo/KyC5UKPrNysJ> Do you ever not lie? Not all questions are black and white, though... so I do not > play the false-dichotomy games of many. I'm only going to waste as much time on you as it takes to type up this message and that's it. I'm referring to your constant crap about productivity. You consistently try to put Linux into your own teeny tiny world and then compare it. As I have said before. Linux isn't just a desktop. I will never care about your usage. Your usage is "yours". You have your own reality distortion field going on. You honestly believe your own crap. I get it, but you're so off base where does one even begin. Drop all your silly comparisons. You completely have the wrong model to begin with. I shouldn't even be replying to you in the first place because you'll just argue this. You want to know why I feel the way I do, this is why. I don't want your argument either. I don't care. You have absolutely nothing even remotely interesting to say. Good lord, I'd give real money if I thought it would buy you a clue. You know what I can do with Linux? I can build a machine of my own design and need. I can build it with one PCI slot or none or 6 or whatever I want. It is constantly updated and supported on multiple processor types. The apps are portable. The problem I have with that PowerPC app written in CodeWarrior on the PowerPC mac which is no longer supported is the problem. I don't have this issue on Linux. I can use an app for a long time. I can continue to buy the hardware I need. I can expand it. I'm not locked into what some company thinks is a good profit margin for themselves. You have a nice pretty desktop. That's nice. I don't care. I care about my network working. I care about software working. I care about how long it all lasts. I'm not a stupid consumer who wants the new shiny every 12 months. That's the Apple model. So in my opinion, use case, whatever, Linux will always DESTROY OSX. You got NOTHING I want. Not a damn thing. Even running Adobe is a pain in the ass. The constant upgrades for no real reason. It's constant bullshit designed to get you to open your wallet over and over again. You don't need DreamWeaver. You just think you do. You learned it, and it's comfortable. I don't know who said it in here but they were dead right on. BlueFish. Or just write it by hand. And then all you ever need is a text editor. What you have is something made simple and I see that's a market. But it's not the only market. In fact it is a very small niche market. As I just pointed out, Samsung sold 83 million smart phones this quarter. Adobe has less than 10 million customers, overall and I'm being generous. Things like Docker and Open Cloud are making billions of dollars right now. Whole new categories are being spun up as a result. That's what Linux is up to right now. We, or at least me, don't care what you're doing with a PDF. The backdoor is simple. You want to say, Linux is great at xyz, and then devote the rest of your time to being negative about it. You think that little 1% nice thing you said buys you a pass to 99% negative? Not at all. That's being clueless. No Linux user falls for that. You don't have a good platform. You have a product that nets Apple roughly 40% in gross margins. Steve Jobs own words were that he came back to Apple, he'd milk the shit out of its customers. As I have always said, who do you think works at Apple? Guys like you that know how to *use* their software, or coders that work on the command line and now how to *write* software? You're not Apple material. And all of you guys are just customers. You're the profit engine. All of this crap you hear about being well educated and well designed... That's the hype they talk to get you to buy. Where do you think all that cash comes from, the Mac? Hell no. Just run right over to MacRumors or wherever you get your Mac news and look at the breakout of revenue. It's 90% from iOS and related business. And I have to opine that all those people buying all those iPhones and iPads has a halo affect on the Mac itself. Now, that iPhone, is just 15% of the smart phone market. So you will run to profits next. Apple makes all da money you will say. Samsung makes tons of money as well, and I don't even care. They are 15%. And 90% of their revenue comes from one class of product, which is NOT the Mac. Those iCloud services, well thank God for Amazon, Google And Microsoft, cause Apple doesn't even eat their own dog food. If I am at a restaurant and I see the employees eating the food they serve I feel better. But if they go outside and buy from elsewhere, one has to wonder why. With Linux, we eat our own dog food. From the $15 ARM all the way up to the tens of millions of dollars super cluster. And that is the most amazing opportunity in compute I have ever seen. Again that just shows you how the so-called most advanced operating system in the world is actually a puff marketing campaign. You can edit photos, edit video and look at the pretty desktop. Congrats. I don't care. It's not a platform I'd want for myself. You don't control the platform. You're just along for the ride. I'd rather role my own solutions to problems. I can count on that. -- Marek Novotny https://github.com/marek-novotny

And then all you ever > need is a text editor. You are making a bunch of assumptions about my views... things not based on my comments. To clear up a few: * I do not buy a computer every 12 months. Heck, my wife's is from 2007 and mine is about 4 years old. Your claim of the "Apple model" is wrong. * You say Linux will "destroy OS X" - and I have agreed it is great for older hardware when you have no OS or the like. * You say I have nothing you want. Um, OK. Never tried to convince you to change. Use what you like. Frankly you sound insecure with your choices - as if you see how other tools work you fear YOU will want to change. I might also want to change if I see how other tools work in ways I did not know. I do not fear that - I encourage it. I like to learn about technology... maybe you do not. Not a put down... everyone has their own focuses in life. * You note I do not NEED Dreamweaver. You are right. But I prefer it for some types of web work. For others I use WordPress or a text editor (Text Wrangler mostly). For most I actually use a combination. Choice is good. * You claim I think I need Dreamweaver: this is incorrect. As noted. Not sure why you are obsessed with Dreamweaver. I frankly find that odd. But it still comes down to: You have yet to get to a position of mine you disagree with. So given that, what is your real problem here? The fact I focus mostly on desktop usage? The fact I focus on productivity, efficiency, and error-reduction? What is it you think I am doing that is wrong? > What you have is something made simple and I see that's a market. But > it's not the only market. In fact it is a very small niche market. As I > just pointed out, Samsung sold 83 million smart phones this quarter. > Adobe has less than 10 million customers, overall and I'm being > generous. So what? I really do not get your obsession with Adobe. Remember: it is your obsession here, not mine. Heck, in my "tasks" I do not even feature ANY Adobe software, even in the tasks that involve PDFs. > Things like Docker and Open Cloud are making billions of dollars right > now. Whole new categories are being spun up as a result. That's what > Linux is up to right now. We, or at least me, don't care what you're > doing with a PDF. So show tasks which desktop Linux does well! I would love to see it. Or if you have a different focus show that... show great server uses. That would be AWESOME! Much better than this long, rambling post of yours where you have yet to really get to a point. You keep making false assumptions about my views and attacking those straw men. It is, frankly, weird. Maybe you really did misunderstand. It happens. Now I have clarified for you - so you should, if you are honest, drop it. Or if you think I lead you astray and made it seem like what you are saying show it and I can clarify more. But stop putting words in my mouth, please. > The backdoor is simple. You want to say, Linux is great at xyz, and then > devote the rest of your time to being negative about it. You think that > little 1% nice thing you said buys you a pass to 99% negative? Not at > all. That's being clueless. No Linux user falls for that. My main focus, and frankly the focus of much of this group, is the desktop. In that area desktop Linux does poorly... it simply does not compete. But notice how many people in COLA lie about that. I respond to those lies. I think advocacy should be honest. I do this in all areas of my advocacy. For example, without going into reasons why or pushing this to politics, I have been backing Sanders. Well, his chances are slim: he needs about 64% of the remaining pledged delegates to win. In different groups I have discussed this and how we can still back him but be honest with his chances being slim (many are pushing that idea he still has a strong chance... just not true). I advocate for him but I am honest with his weaknesses. Or back to technology: I advocate for "informed computing" - this means noting the pros and cons of each. Yes, for many things I like OS X but that does not mean I should deny that Apple includes slow hard drives in their iMacs (and minis) or deny that OS X and other Apple software have weaknesses. They most certainly do. I focus on consistency a lot and speak of where Apple and the OS X environment fails there... heck, you are obsessing over Dreamweaver so I will talk about that: In its CC versions it does not even use the Apple color picker. This is absurd... no excuse for it. Makes sharing color swatches between apps much harder. Might seem like a small thing, but it definitely impacts productivity, efficiency, and error-reduction. > You don't have a good platform. You have a product that nets Apple > roughly 40% in gross margins. Steve Jobs own words were that he came > back to Apple, he'd milk the shit out of its customers. You can say Apple does not provide a good platform... so show how desktop Linux handles things better! Would LOVE to see it. I offered some tasks. Owl offered others. You can offer your own. That would be excellent! > As I have always said, who do you think works at Apple? Show how desktop Linux promotes productivity, efficiency, and error-reduction for YOU! Use your own system! Maybe I will learn something about a cool workflow or way of getting a task done. He's OCD about his trifecta of computing, but can't imagine other use cases where his Mac is a bloated piece of junk. > > Put your crack pipe down now, Snit ;) > > (snip another giant pile of BS by a crackhead) You left out the part where he goes back to the desktop, claiming something like, "Remember desktops? This is a song about desktops." Only, it isn't. Never was -- its him and his ilk that constantly try to frame Linux in terms of its desktop capabilities. And personally, I prefer a Linux desktop (xfce) over Windows 7, Windows 10, or OS X. It's _fast_, and it gets the job done, allowing me to concentrate on the real work that I do. And, it stays out of my way. No wonder Microsoft is trying to incorporate Ubuntu userland into Windows 10. They know what modern developers are using. They know that they've been losing the race. OS X has an advantage in that regard, but its userland tools are outdated and clunky...quite long in the tooth, actually. (I think most people using Macs for development would tend to use macports to keep themselves up-to-date, but that may be anecdotal experience.) -- -v "Desktops, workstations and servers are and Microsoft is doing very well. That is not my argument in the slightest! I have openly encouraged you and others to show how you are productive! I all but beg for it. What I would LOVE to see is examples of where you think your desktop allows you to be more productive and efficient. If you mostly use the command line then Linux is a great solution. Absolutely. Based on your comments it seems you have created a situation in your worldview where I would disagree with that. Weird. Nah... anyone who can comprehend what they read can see that his statement here was about the "desktop Linux" arguments ("they") you put forth, not about *you*:
Me: "Aren't most of your 'successful' (in your mind) anti-Linux arguments based on desktop Linux and associated apps? "
Scott: "I think those are probably his only arguments, and they tend to be pretty specious."
Now... unless you're running your ol' 'I am my arguments' delusion again, you have no argument here.
> In other words: you had no actual point to make.

I've said it many, many times for well over a decade, he has trouble differentiating between things the rest of us have no trouble with. Of course, according to him, he will now apologize for this error <eyeroll>. His many episodes like this are related to his narcissistic personality disorder. If you research something called the Object Relations Theory you began to understand how many bizarre subforms of a concept known as 'splitting' there are. While he'd never admit it, Snit is a textbook case for NPD: "Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder, characterized by grandiosity, excessive need for admiration, and little empathy for others.[1] People with the disorder often come across as arrogant, callous, and envious, tend to be exploitative in their interpersonal relationships, and can be excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity. As a personality disorder, those with NPD generally have poor insight into their condition and may not acknowledge that their behavior causes problems for others or themselves." All that's missing is his picture. Even more telling... "People who are narcissistic commonly feel rejected, humiliated and threatened when criticised. To protect themselves from these dangers, they often react with disdain, rage, and/or defiance to any slight criticism, real or imagined.[27] To avoid such situations, some narcissistic people withdraw socially and may feign modesty or humility. In cases where the narcissistic personality-disordered individual feels a lack of admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation, they may also manifest a desire to be feared and be notorious (narcissistic supply)." <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder> My take: This episode was an 'imagined criticism' episode that incorporated a form of splitting. His "desire to be feared and be notorious" manifests in the many lawsuits he has threatened over the years after getting responses from his blatant trolling efforts. He knows there are no grounds for his making such ridiculous threats in response to BS from a goofy 'nom de plume', but his NPD overtakes him. > >> We'll see if he admits his mistake and corrects himself. > > > > My take: Too many treat him the wrong way, they give him a voice and let > > him talk about what he wants to talk about.
