Sorry, but I never use a desktop. In the first place, a "desktop" is another GUI "crutch" or "shell" between the user and the machine. Its tasks are a kind of elaboration of basic OS functions. I prefer to deal more directly with the machine.

Fact is, when users are given a choice between desktop Windows and Linux, they overwhelmingly choose Windows (see the Linux netbook fiasco of 2009). Google won't even put the word Linux anywhere near Android. And the word 'Linux' isn't used one time on the main page of the most popular Linux distro http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop.
