Then you'd better be prepared to stay for a lifetime, 'cause these

You keep singing that sour note, but it is just sour grapes.

Not only does OSX have a much bigger marketshare than Linux on the
desktop, it is on what you all call grossly overpriced hardware.

Meanwhile FREE Linux desktop is just what it was from day one. Hobbyist
and developer friendly and rejected by the rest of the market
resoundingly.

The last time I heard, FREEDOM Linux was everywhere: Super computers,
servers of all kind, desktop, Android, embedded in numerous devices, on
and on and on………. Anybody to think that it is a hobbyist platform must
be out of touch with reality, living in a neanderthal cave in the
Ozarks. Linux has won the race long time ago, this is the reality, like
it or not.

This is comp.os.linux.advocacy group, not
comp.os.linux.desktop.advocacy. Many winTrolls and iCultits desperately
hang on to the Linux at !.5% figure because this allows them a false
victory and walkaway felling smug. The fact is the counters are
sponsored by various groups for ulterior motives and to show themselves
falsely in a better light. I will let you in on a secret, the counters
are promised double bonus to show Linux desktop usage at around 1.5%.
The accuracy of the counting methods are highly suspect. Will they
allow impartial third parties to scrutinize their methods and data?. If
it is not open for inspection then it can not be trusted. Using this
data in an argument is not valid to say the least.

For the ill-informed with their heads in the sand or living in a Ozark
cave in the darkness, here is a 2010 list. A 2015 list will be many fold
larger.

While Linux has found success on servers, and on lots of devices that
have hidden the fact that Linux is there at all. You know like embedded
OS on devices, Android, ChromeOS and others, the fact is that on the
desktop it has failed to find a market.

And I think that if you actually read here often, you'll find that most
would agree that Linux is excellent in those roles it has found success
with.

It is only on the desktop that Linux cannot and will not ever find more
than a miniscule portion of the market. The reasons are simple.
1. Absolutely no compelling reason to switch to Linux on the desktop.
It isn't easier, doesn't have the range of professional/consumer level
software available for it are some of the biggest reasons.
2. The plethora of GUIs for it are anathema to wide acceptance. Most
people don't want to fuck with the OS, they want to run the applications
and have the OS get out of the way to do it.
3. The plethora of distros make it impossible to have a unified
marketing message. I know you propeller heads don't think that's
important, but it sales/marketing it is huge. And for all the technical
reasons you might spout, in the end it is marketing/sales that makes the
difference..
4. The level of all too many FOSS apps is just sad. Many, maybe even
most, never even getting to a 1.0 level but seemingly forever in a beta
stage.

Who gives a rats ass about super computers? No one around here could
even afford them. The funny thing is that Cray realizes that Linus
Torvalds screwed up and gives it away for free. So they took it and
modified it to work on their super computers. But you still can't
afford one, let alone afford the power to run one. So it's strawmans
arguement to bring up super-computers.

Stick to the desktop where linux fails to sell to the masses.

What! modified and secured, really?. If you have proof of this, take it
to Stallman. He will take them to task. This is not allowed is it?
