People can understand "the C drive" or "the E drive" because it is essentially nothing more than an identifier for a specific piece of hardware. /dev to begin with makes no sense to a user. Why would a person have access to their hardware through the /dev folder? Then /sd, what do these two letters mean to a typical user? Nothing. Then A and then finally 1. None of how Linux sets up the hardware is intuitive in any way. You can get used to it after a while, but it's not something you'll figure out within a few minutes the way you would C:, D: or E:. -- Slimer OpenMedia, GreenPeace Supporter & SPCA Paw Partner Encrypt.

You can't guilt an intelligent human being into using something as awful as Linux. I've used it, as have many others who become physically ill at the thought of using the broken piece of crap on their computer and damaging it as a result. I remind you that your toiletware wasn't able to shutdown my desktop PC. Forcing the machine to turn off will damage it. What? Since Linux is mostly installed by the end-user, either as dual-boot or whole drive, the majority of all Linux users see those identifiers during installation when they're asked to partition the drive(s). And even if you don't do any drive partitioning during installation, the minute you click on gParted or any disk utility, you see device identifiers like /dev/sda1. The claim is the user doesn't have to understand /dev/sda etc. Well, they had better understand it because they are going to encounter it the first time they install Linux on a dual boot system which is the way most people install Linux. One example here. Jump to 07:00. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKI024wUTUw But you liars knew this already. You just choose to lie instead of admitting the truth which is things like /dev/sda vs /dev/sda1 is going to confuse the hell out of users. Maybe that's why so many people lose their Windows partition and or data when they attempt to install Linux.

Nope.
All they need to do is understand the abstract notion of what
they are doing, and that's only assuming that the Linux installer
can't accomodate Windows automagically (including the matter of
resizing partitions).
The Windows and MacOS installers don't do that. They leave you
completely on your own if you want to install more than one OS on
a system.

You are trying to hold Linux to a higher standard than what
either Windows or MacOS manages to achieve.

There's that too. If someone is saavy enough to be even aware of
this sort of thing, they will likely know the issues involved. This
includes the problem that Microsoft does not work or play well with
others and has already consumed all available space on their system.

The simple solution to that is to just ditch the Windows virus. Non-problem solved. :) -- To WinDrones and iCultists obsessed with Linux. Get a life.

When I took delivery on a UEFI laptop with Win 8.1 installed, it took up *6* partitions. No matter. I removed the drive and formatted as an ext4, in a Vantec USB case. It is quite easy on a Mac to install a third party OS and have dual boot capabilities. Once you know you have the required hard drive space and the like, just run the Boot Camp assistant, set up a partition for Windows (with a nice, easy to use graphical UI), and then install Windows. You then can pre-set which you want to boot to or decide at boot time. It even has a tool for Windows which allows you to set it. -- * Mint MATE Trash, Panel, Menu: <http://youtu.be/C0y74FIf7uE> * Mint KDE bugs or Easter eggs? <http://youtu.be/CU-whJQvtfA> * Mint KDE working with folders: <http://youtu.be/7C9nvniOoE0> * Mint KDE creating files: <http://youtu.be/N7-fZJaJUv8> * Mint KDE help: <http://youtu.be/3ikizUd3sa8> * Mint KDE general navigation: <http://youtu.be/t9y14yZtQuI> * Mavericks / Pages 5.1: <http://youtu.be/D3BPWANQoIk> * OS / Word Processor Comparison: <http://youtu.be/w6Qcl-w7s5c>
