The two alternatives are to use an entire PC and play the music through crap amplifiers and crap speakers. The other is to copy all the music to a USB stick and then use a remote to skip from one song to the next. Neither one is as good or as flexible as using a smartphone to navigate the music and stream to a real stereo. -- "I've done for example SQL optimization and the reason I could do it better than the best high level experts can do was because I think in hex and bits and byte movements. Linux software NOW _can_ set up playlists and organize by artist, but only because its developers copied the features they found amazing on iTunes. The difference is that in iTunes, these features actually work right and sync seamlessly to any device Apple manufactured. With Linux, it's hit or miss with most devices. In fact, I don't recall any of the Linux media software actually organizing my music properly. Most programs tend to read the tags incorrectly and leave behind a terrible mess. -- Slimer OpenMedia, GreenPeace Supporter & SPCA Paw Partner Encrypt.

Exactly. Presumably you can control how the stereo interacts with
the files on the thumb drive. Those controls are likely the same as
would be presented for multiple physical disks.
It's not rocket science. It isn't even terribly interesting from
the point of view of the stereo manufacturer.
