smackdown!

I'd already inflated the hours on the assumption that they're fat & lazy sloths. The
punch list was some landscaping (4), car detailing (6) and cleaning the garage (10).

If they're able to perform that well enough, for the follow-up, I have two rooms that
I want to get their floors refurbished this year, so they need to be packed up and
emptied, have the old W/W carpet and underlying stuff all pulled up, etc. I'll handle
the removal & refinishing of the baseboard/trim, etc, as that actually requires some
modest amount of talent, but I'd use them again to move the furniture back in, etc.
Figure another 20-30 hours or so, so between just these two 'weekend' jobs, they
could probably have enough additional cash in hand to buy a brand new PC.

Or if we're lowbrow... for them to finally pay a month's rent to Mom. ;-)

Pretending to know that I'm "forging" myself (this is Snit's ridiculous idea) isn't exactly honest.

You must have read about all those things in a different group, sure as
hell didn't read them here.

Here is all about BS from all, almost all the time.

Yet Apple has become a huge, highly profitable company while the same
cannot be said for Linux on desktops OR servers. Only in portable
devices are any real fat profits being made, and on those it is Android
to the consumer, not Linux at all.

("Lloyd" follow-up posts were deleted, unread. I'm sure he's just
repeating the same lies, the same beyond-idiotic "if there were

Of course you know that because you read every damned line. And of
course, the gist of my reply doesn't agree with your pie-in-the-sky
outlook when it comes to Linux on the desktop, so you 'snipped unread'!

Right, I know that just everyone believes that! :)

Snip this - Linux on the desktop is so compelling that Chrisv feels
more compelled to keep using Windows!!

Why advertise how you cannot refute his claims? Weird?

To be completely honest, there are certain things about the GNU/Linux
desktop which are compelling. It's good to know that if ever I need
software to do something which suddenly became a need, there likely is a
program available in the repositories. It's also pretty refreshing to
know that many of the things I would usually have to PAY to do in
Windows (if open-source software weren't available in Windows and OS X),
cost me nothing to do in GNU/Linux like ripping DVDs and/or CDs.
Knowing, also, that I have several different interfaces to choose from
and that they all work with the same set of software feels great.
Granted, some of the desktop environments are fairly buggy like KDE or
simply horrible like Gnome, but Unity exists and it happens to be pretty
great whereas XFCE is fairly pretty and works for low-end machines. The
biggest thing, for me anyway, is that GNU/Linux allows me to have FULL
control of my computer. OS X did nothing but limit me and Windows
basically INSULTED me by telling me that the battery which came with my
computer was incompatible with it (in addition to refusing to allow me
to install the recovery disks because I changed the hard disk). Sure,
GNU/Linux isn't perfect, but if the bugs were ironed out and all of the
interfaces worked flawlessly, it would provide way more advantages to
users than Windows or OS X do.

I've done that in the past, never paid for a program to do rips with
yet. Not on Windows, not on OSX.

So pick another 'something' that I cannot do on Windows or OSX that you
can do with Linux on the desktop. I'm all ears!! :)

I don't get all that hung up on the presentation of the desktop on any
OS. I find all of them just fine to do the things I want to do, mostly
not involving using the desktop at all. It isn't the desktop after
all, it is the apps that run on the platform that really matter.

IOW, if you're futzing around on the desktop, your just doing techie
jerking off!! :)

GNU/Linux would be a lot more compelling if the free software developed
primarily for IT weren't available on Windows or OS X *AT ALL* but that
goes entirely against the very nature of free software.

What 'wrestling' - click/double-click, app opens to do actual productive work.

And you've provided additional evidence of being a complete imbecile by
misspelling a simple word like "truly."
