Uh, oh ...

Intel Says It Can Help Google’s Chromebooks Grow Up

With the broader Windows PC market stalled, Intel is looking to grab a
more significant share of the Chromebook market.

The chipmaker, which was in just four Chromebooks as of last fall, will be
in 20 this year, including new Celeron-based systems from Acer, Asus,
Lenovo and Toshiba. Lenovo introduced two new models last night, its first
consumer-targeted Chromebooks.

Intel also sees an opportunity to help Chromebooks expand to higher
reaches of the market, with Core i3 systems coming from Acer and Dell.

“Get more of the power you expect” is one of Intel’s tag lines at the
event. Historically, most Chromebooks have used ARM processors.

Among the new products:

Asus announced the 11.6-inch C200 and 13.3-inch C300, both of which will
begin shipping this summer.

Acer unveiled its next-generation 2014 Chromebook with a more compact and
quieter design. It will be available later this year. The company will
also offer the C720 Chromebook with a fourth-generation i3 processor for
$350. It’s expected to ship early in the back-to-school season.

Dell introduced a new configuration of its Chromebook 11 using Intel’s
Core i3 processor. The laptop is scheduled for release later this year.

In other Chrome news, the LG Chromebase, which was announced at CES, will
go on sale on May 26 for $349 from major retailers, including Amazon,
Fry’s Electronics and Newegg. The HP Chromebox will also be available in
U.S. retail stores.
...

But "no one is interested in Chromebooks" according to the bitter
WinDrones and their obsessive iCultist friends. Why, sure, that's why
there will be sixteen new Intel models this year -- and I doubt ARM will
give up on the Chromebook market. Don't you hate it when reality gets in
the way of your lies WinDrones and iCultists?

And, BTW, the "broader Windows PC market stalled" is code for ... "No one
wants the Windows 8.x crap."

No one said "no one is interested". There's one born every minute. For
what they provide I'd take an android 4.4 tablet such as the nexus 7
anyday. For the money you can get a fully functional laptop and put a
REAL OS on it (Debian Linux for me).

Only an ignorant fanboi, that would be you wRonG, would see any
benefit in these over a proper lightweight laptop.

Your history of "predictions" goes before you.

You're an idiot.

I want to know what Jeremy from Walmart thinks about this; he appears to
be the expert with his finger on the pulse of the Chromebook market. In
fact, I don't know why Google doesn't make him their marketing consultant.

I know you are trying to push a silly attack, but in the end you are merely
showing off your own faulty reasoning. You assume a sales associate selected
almost solely based on his proximity to a displayed product at one store is
somehow an "expert with his finger on the pulse" of the market of that
product. It is absurd thinking - baseless and naïve.

Gee, I often respond to those who troll me.

Yeah, just evil.

Hey, if you do not want me to call you out on your faulty logic and lies
then work to not use faulty logic and learn to be honest. Not a hard

It appears that the Chromebooks appeal particularly to University
students which is honestly the greatest market Google could go after. A
student wouldn't mind paying 200$ for a computer which allows him to do
anything that he needs to do for school. Word processing? Sure. Browsing
the web for information? Sure. Social networking with classmates? Sure.
Video conferencing? Sure.

Obviously, there are those who'll prefer a more capable computer for
tasks such as video editing but I believe that considering the very
modest tasks most students will need to do, the Chromebook is
sufficient. If it has indeed penetrated the education market, they'll be
looking at profits for a long time.

Google was wise to not use the standard (and failed) desktop Linux model and
make their own paradigm. It is more consistent, more focused, etc. I think
it will do much better than all the "standard" distros combined.

As the Chrome OS is based on the linux kernel, technically, it's a "desktop Linux" OS. That reality aside, it's "interesting" how you use the word "standard" when talking about a "desktop Linux model" here, yet, everywhere else you've complain about how there isn't a standard and that's one of the main things that caused "desktop Linux" to have "failed".
