Desktop Linux is pretty well on it's way to self extermination anyway
but Windows 10 Secure Boot Lock Out is going to pound a few more nails
in the already rotten and putrid smelling Linux coffin.

Then there is the speculation that Microsoft might by purchasing a
controlling interest in Cyanogen in order to stomp on Android.
That one might actually cause some serious damage because anyone who
has used an Android device knows they are extremely buggy and that
Cyanogen is one method for resolving that buggy behavior.

Hopefully Microsoft, a company who actually develops software people
are interested in using, will be able to finally sink Linux right into
the ground where it belongs.

I actually don't want to see Linux disappear as it's a commendable
effort, but if it continues to be tied to repulsive idiots like
clitorisv or Peter Klöwnmann, Microsoft is essentially doing the whole
world a favour by eliminating it entirely.

I have trouble believing that replacing a buggy Linux distribution with
another buggy Linux distribution will eliminate the bugs.

If one of your sources is techrights.org, the chances are that you've
read nothing but absolutely bullshit anyway.

Competition is good because it encourages those involved to raise the
bar which means better products for the consumer.
If Android or Windows wasn't competing directly with Apple I doubt
they would have done as well as they have.
I do not support anything that locks me out of my own hardware.
I run Windows and I also run Linux and I want to continue doing that.
I don't believe Microsoft is doing this to kill Linux as much as they
are trying to lock down security in their own operating system.
However I am 100 percent against it unless there is a legal way
around it. I suspect the lawyers will be involved and it will
ultimately be able to be disabled after agreeing to a "at your own
risk" dialog box. I'm ok with that if it's the only solution.

They both suck.
I use an iPhone 6 and it is a fantastic piece of kit.
I had one Android phone and will never buy another one because it
sucked so bad. It was an HTC something or other.
I got no support from ATT, very few updates and such.
My iPhone 6 has already been updated 2 or 3 times since I've owned
it.
It's not perfect but it's miles ahead of Android phones.
Just read the forums to see for yourself.

That website is so bad I can barely navigate it.
I click on the article title and the link changes but I still see the
same page instead of a dedicated page with just that article on it.
It's like the webmaster wants the viewer to wander around the site to
locate things. I don't have that much time.
Awful site.

Are you referring to Apple or Windows/Android? I get the impression that
we would have seen the same innovation from Apple regardless of whether
they were competing with anyone or not. Their products would simply cost
more.

Microsoft's move toward the modern interface in Windows seemed to be one
made for security reasons as well. After all, the applications of that
interface are sand-boxed and if one turned out to be problematic,
removing it would remove the problem as well.

The same way Linux losers fool themselves into believing that Linux is
ahead of Windows, Android losers fool themselves into believing that the
operating system and hardware is ahead of iOS and iPhones.

I can't stand the site either. Schestowitz seems to be more obsessed
with promoting himself than providing any kind of information. There's
photos of him everywhere whereas any legitimate news site barely ever
shows photos of the journalists. The information is more important than
the author.

That happens because that URL is actually pointing to a single Wordpress post, not a page, and the post title is clickable (it should't be).

#########################
         Tech crap alert!
#########################

Only read below here if you're interested in basic web templating on Wordpress

This issue is often caused by people that are copying and pasting template code (*see below) without really thinking about what they're doing with it. You don't want the title clickable on a single post template because you're *already* in single post view so it makes no sense. It's stupid but it's a very easy fix (take about 5 seconds).

IMO the thing that's worse here is the "What Else is New" section appended to the bottom of this template. Why grab all that crap every time the reader wants to read a single post?!

Doing so just slows things down for no good reason and it essentially defeats the purpose of even having a single post view. If readers actually bothered to comment on a post that was already pretty long, followed by the "What Else is New" section and *then* followed by comments... well, it could get sorta ridiculous if there is no facility to deal with all the content (and he doesn't have that facility). Here's an example of what I mean... and this is without comments:

http://techrights.org/2015/03/28/european-commission-foss/

> It's like the webmaster wants the viewer to wander around the site to
> locate things. I don't have that much time.
> Awful site.

It's using an old theme that has been bastardized. It actually used to be a wordpress.com theme but they retired it years ago:

https://theme.wordpress.com/retired/ocadia/

It still can be had on their site (automattic) but I don't recommend it ;)

https://wpcom-themes.svn.automattic.com/ocadia/

When you look at the single post view template...

https://wpcom-themes.svn.automattic.com/ocadia/single.php

...you can see that there's no anchor tag around the title, its just an h2 tag:

<h2 id="post-<?php the_ID(); ?>" class="storytitle"><?php the_title(); ?></h2>

Here's an example of a similar instance off the techrights site, you can see the anchor tag has been added in:

<h2 id="post-82164" class="storytitle">
<a rel="bookmark" href="http://techrights.org/2015/03/28/european-commission-foss/" nicetitle="Permanent link to Links 28/3/2015: FoundationDB FOSS Shut Down by Apple, European Commission Support for Free Software">Links 28/3/2015: FoundationDB FOSS Shut Down by Apple, European Commission Support for Free Software</a>
</h2>

* Most likely it was just copied and pasted from the post view, which shows multiple posts (hopefully summaries) simultaneously and the titles are clickable so you can then go to the full story if you wish. Notice how different it *isn't* from the above:

<h2 id="post-82138" class="storytitle">
<a rel="bookmark" href="http://techrights.org/2015/03/26/cyanogen-and-other-pawns/" nicetitle="Permanent link to Microsoft Won't Let People Wipe (Off) Windows But Happily Wipes Android, Wipes Android Apps Through Cyanogen and Blackmailed 'Partners'">Microsoft Won't Let People Wipe (Off) Windows But Happily Wipes Android, Wipes Android Apps Through Cyanogen and Blackmailed 'Partners'</a>
</h2>

That markup came off a post's title link on this page:

http://techrights.org/category/google/

Looks like an errant copy and paste job. Were it me, while I was in there I'd remove that "What Else is New" section and maybe even create a different, smaller, sidebar area for single post views (if I even had one at all).

Worse, there are archives going back to 2006 in the sidebar! Why? Put that stuff on a dedicated archive page... what you don't do is make every page of your site pay for you *not* doing something as sensible as this. A potential reason why the sidebar is this long is because a theme has sidebar widgets coded in as the default and the person running it may not know they can take widgets out as well as add them. That's a stretch but I've seen things like it before.

Blah blah blah. I remember when the trolls were proclaiming
Windows XP <laughing> "The Linux Killer" LOL.

Same old story, year after years, from the dazed followers of
Microsoft.

And yet Linux is top dog in supercomputers, top dog in Web servers,
giving Microsoft good competition in general servers and in embedded devices
(so much so that Microsoft feels they must offer a free Windows 10 embedded
to counter that threat), absolutely kicking Microsoft's ass in
mobile, and even making Microsoft feel a little prickly in the desktop
market.

Wrong.

Cyanogen was simply a way (and only one way) to replace the stock Android
installation in some Android devices to get rid of the crap that the
hardware vendor or the telecomm company installed.

Well, the more Microsoft tightens its grip, the more the rebel alliance
slips though its fingers. That move might actually encourage vendors to
ship more non-Windows machines, akin to the Chromebooks that some of them
ship.

If not, well, currently the "Linux" "market" serves mainly tech-savvy users,
and it can continue to do so.

Things are actually looking a lot more positive than they were years back.

None of Microsoft's self-serving and despicable machinations have been able
to forestall Linux penetration into almost all computing markets where
tech-savvy users are able to make the decisions.

They still haven't tried the one thing I fear most... making Free Software
illegal.

Why? This has nothing to do with Microsoft. It'll be the OEMs making
the choice to require Secure Boot.

But go ahead and hate anyway - it's what your kind does. You're a Linux
advocate who thinks the world + MS + OEMs owes you something.

"The precise final specs are not available yet, so all this is somewhat
subject to change, but right now, Microsoft says that the switch to
allow Secure Boot to be turned off is now optional. Hardware can be
Designed for Windows 10 and can offer no way to opt out of the Secure
Boot lock down."

You'll know for sure in a few weeks/months.

But... too bad for you Linuxfux if it turns out the OEM disallows Secure
Boot to be switched off. It's their product to do with as they wish.
They owe you nothing. If you don't like it, buy somewhere else that
offers hardware not 'Designed for Win10', or build your own.

You don't get the exact options you want with prebuilt systems, anyway.
So what are you complaining about?

I'm trying to communicate with 6th grade level WinDrones. In other words
I'm "talking down" to you. If you were smart enough to figure out what I
just said, you would be insulted.
