#285404 — Can someone with a Top Goal To Improve Desktop Linux report a bug?

FromDFS <nospam@dfs.com>

SubjectCan someone with a Top Goal To Improve Desktop Linux report a bug?
Message-ID<mei95j$em5$2@dont-email.me>
Is there anyone here that has a Top Goal To Improve Desktop Linux?

Hello? Anyone?

It's a simple usability issue.

Bug: the default in xfce (thru 4.10) is to not have a 'busy' mouse
cursor that lets you know the system is doing something, like launching
an app.

Judging from the number of Internet posts going back eight years, this
is a long-time issue:

https://www.google.com/search?q=xfce+no+busy+mouse+cursor

Workaround/fix: go to Settings -> Mouse Settings -> Themes and choose a
particular theme that has such a cursor.

Suggested Fix: make sure the default mouse theme includes a 'busy' cursor.

Thanks in advance to whoever has a TGTIDL.

You are really an idiot.
You are aware that there are different means to show (for example) that an
appp is being launched than by a stupid mouse cursor? Why not? No brain?

I don't care about other ways. I, among others, want the mouse to show
'busy' when the system is launching an app or doing certain things
(sending a Usenet post or whatever).

You are aware that it is quite irrelevant what you want?
I for example hate it when OSX is showing the spinning ball. Others (with
less intelligence naturally) may like it

You are aware you're a stupid shit for telling me what /I/ want is
irrelevant?

> I for example hate it when OSX is showing the spinning ball.

What you hate is irrelevant (ha!)

Firefox and Thunderbird are very slow to start on Linux. I hate it when
I click the app entry in the menu and nothing happens for 4-5 seconds,
and nothing indicates the app is starting.

It's retarded behavior - leave it to Linux to get it wrong.

Who says you're intelligent?

I thought by now DuFuS and Snit would have released their own Linux
distribution ... since they both know so much about how it "should" work.

SnitFus Linux?
DoofSnit?

And once again RonB shows his ignorance of the issues I discuss. A new
distro is NOT going to fix the problems with the ecosystem.

How can an "advocate" be so ignorant of the desktop Linux ecosystem?

He also thinks I am against choice and think there are too many distros...
but thinks I can fix THAT by adding yet another distro.

He has cracked completely... also talks about his imaginary friends nonstop.

that's what they are, freaks.

Why would Linux need a "busy" cursor? On this laptop, with an SSD
admittedly, Google Chrome comes up (first time after boot), in about a
second.

LibreOffice 4.4 comes up with an immediate splash screen, which is actually
unnecessary because it, too, comes up in a second (at most).

Now, I am joshing a little bit, because on my work box, a DELL Precision
M6800 with standard laptop hard drives, it takes the apps more like 3
seconds to appear, so I appreciate the LibreOffice splash screen then.

:-)

Windows may seem "better" because it has a "busy" cursor. The problem is
that you get that fscking "busy" cursor wayyyyy to often! Win 2012 Server
is a lot faster than that lipsticked Vista descendant, Win 7, but it is
still "Windoze". Maybe DFS can make it his Top Goal to get Microsoft to
further improve the efficiency of their products.
