Not bad for "hobbyware."

~~
It finally happened. Today, all 500 of the world's top 500 supercomputers
are running Linux.

Linux rules supercomputing. This day has been coming since 1998, when Linux
first appeared on the TOP500 Supercomputer list. Today, it finally happened:
All 500 of the world's fastest supercomputers are running Linux.

The last two non-Linux systems, a pair of Chinese IBM POWER computers
running AIX, dropped off the November 2017 TOP500 Supercomputer list.

I recall Linux-hating trolls claiming that Linux usage in
supercomputers didn't really "count", because they all use "customized
versions" of Linux. *boggle* Like, so the fsck what? There *is* no
"one true Linux" - they are *all* "customized versions"!

As usual, the shitwits were trying to deny a strength of FOSS - it's
infinite freedom and flexibility. In their upside-down world, this
strength was actually a weakness!

Nothing that is a positive for Linux "counts." That's how the hypocritcal
anti-linux troll's "mind" "works."

Not sure what you want it to "count" for? I say it is great that Linux can
be used, even in a modified for, for such things. Does ANYONE disagree?

The fact that it is used on supercomputers is a testament to the fact
that it does the job and gets out of the way of anyone who wants to
use it. The operating system can be as much or as little as the owners
of a supercomputer want it to be and that is probably one of the main
reasons why it was selected over Windows which isn't as versatile.

Additionally, an article came out today showing that on the same
mobile hardware, Windows will divide your potential performance by a
factor of about 4. It probably didn't perform as well on those
supercomputers as Linux either.

Linux is good for hackers and people who build their own highly customized systems. But it only got so much attention lately because the greedy corps no longer want to pay the OS developers and the good ones are getting scarce and more expensive as our population getting more and more dumb.... The CEOs can get bigger benefits just stealing the FOSS stuff which is VERY buggy but they can get away with it unless people get killed (e.g. put Linux into cockpits or nuclear silos). The end of World is night.

At least the BSD has been developed by paid academics and people naturally intelligent (not drug induced intelligence) and Apple took good use of that....

The *only* reason Apple chose BSD is because of the license. This is
Microsoft's dilemma. At some point Windoze will be either Linux or BSD.
Linux is better, but BSD lets you close the source after adding trojan.
What to do... what to do...

I heard that on IRC once ;)
BSD is unstable crap.

I don't think so, the VMS kernel has been the most rock stable and robust OS ever developed on this planet. Without it, Windoze would already collapsed... Unixes cannot compare to VMS... Only if someone writes completely new OS from scratch but all attempts so far failed due to the degenerating human intellect (only muslims are reproducing while the intelligent white cold climate adapted race heading for extinction)... We are only recycling over and over the old things developed decades ago for very poor hardware power which cannot compare to todays chips.

Can Google take over this planet by adopting the BeOS kernel for *droids?

Sounds good. BeOS: 20+ years later and it's still single-user. Linux
is wasted on droids.

Droids are single user, DOS is single user, fast and stable, real time, ask what controls the ICBM nuke SILOs!

Even the best hardware can't make up for doze.

Yep. Sounds like the perfect job for BeOS.

With doze in control, they will be self-nuke silos.

Right. The "greedy corporations" "steal" software that is *free*, and
*despite* the fact that it's "very buggy". (rolling eyes)

You know, it's kind of tough to satisfy your customers, using "very
buggy" software to power your product!

Unless you have a monopoly, like M$ does on the desktop. They can get
away with it.

There is something to be said for products that are not intended to to
be "profitable" or viable in the market. They can be better, in some
ways. Unfortunately, they inevitably fall behind the curve.

When I called-out the Kreep on the above *lie*, he attacked me as
being too "stupid" to understand it is was a valid "opinion". What a
lying fscking *asshole*.

Things change. Could be the idea of a usenet group is getting outdated. Having to tolerate the use of Xfce is not what most want to do. Sadly this is what happens when deeply bad self esteem takes over Prescott Computer Guy's mind. Perhaps you use it foolishly. Do you not realize the use of private networks? You guys can only speculate from the perspective of a psychopath.

Now that nobody is talking to Prescott Computer Guy, he's making it sound like he's outsmarted us all -- when in fact, people are just not playing his game anymore.
