You can also parse ~/.config/chromium/Default/"Current Session" for them. "Current Tabs" has old ones, oddly.

The extension would likely serve my needs just fine, and might even be faster (though my "Actions" ran quickly in my video there are times they take a couple seconds more). Just went to the extension site and I see they even have a "custom format" -- which means I can have it with brackets or whatever if I like (or so I assume). Might not be able to have both, as I have now, but not a big deal. Cool. If such a thing did not exist, how would you add it to Chrome? Just > curious... > I've never looked into writing a browser extension, so I don't know. I would probably just parse one of the files like this: anon@lowtide:~/.config/chromium/Default$ strings "Current Session" |grep http | sort |uniq |grep -v newtab https://www.amazon.com/ http://www.amazon.com/ http://www.breitbart.com/ http://www.foxnews.com/ http://www.godlikeproductions.com/ http://www.lunaticoutpost.com/ anon@lowtide:~/.config/chromium/Default$ Now that shows tabs across two different browser windows, so it's not ideal. "Current Tabs" works the same way, but it is only created after closing the browser, so I guess it functions as a recover last session thingie. "Current Session" is updated continually with new tab URLs, but it doesn't remove closed URLs, even on browser close, so a script's logic would need to take that into account and depending on what you wanted it to do, it might delete one or both files at some point. With the extension, it copies to the clipboard selection, so you could do that for each task-oriented browser window you had, following each copy with an `xsel -b >set1` (set2, set3, etc.), and have different sets of tab urls that you could later pass to a script that opens those sets in different browser windows, possibly positioning the windows on different virtual desktops.

Basically what I am looking for is being able to grab all the URLs so I can paste them here or wherever. As it is the "task" is easily done on Linux. Not a surprise given that even Safari had such an extension. Well done... if that is what you are looking for. Curious: would you need to use a hot-key or extra icon on your screen (not tied to the browser)? I am not sure I could get an icon to show just with Safari but I could tie it to a hot key that worked only when running Safari. -- * OS X / Linux: What is a file? <http://youtu.be/_dMbXGLW9PI> * Mint MATE Trash, Panel, Menu: <http://youtu.be/C0y74FIf7uE> * Mint KDE working with folders: <http://youtu.be/7C9nvniOoE0> * Mint KDE creating files: <http://youtu.be/N7-fZJaJUv8> * Mint KDE help: <http://youtu.be/3ikizUd3sa8> * Mint KDE general navigation: <http://youtu.be/t9y14yZtQuI> * Mint KDE bugs or Easter eggs? <http://youtu.be/CU-whJQvtfA> * Easy on OS X / Hard on Linux: <http://youtu.be/D3BPWANQoIk> * OS / Word Processor Comparison: <http://youtu.be/w6Qcl-w7s5c>

I didn't write what I meant, I should have said that I couldn't find a way with javascript. In any event, given how he worded the challenge, I expected to see an extension, not a script that was turned into a service, like his shows. As I said, I've never used Appescript before but it definitely can be useful if you're doing these sorts of things. But I don't see any money in it so I'll leave it at that. Being that he didn't specify formatting or the getting of feedback (notifications) I didn't bother with any of that; it looks like adding notifications would be easy enough. While I fulfilled his challenge as worded, I give kudos to him for the addition of the helper method (which eliminates the loop altogether): - -- tell application "Safari" set urlObj to (URL of every tab of window 1) end tell set the clipboard to urlObj as text set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "\n" - -- I think he's crazy for not learning javascript, there are reasons Apple is including it. With javascript he could actually add to his web development capabilities and even earn a living with it. You really can't do much front end work if you don't have a solid grasp of the basics. On the back end there is node.js, which isn't going anywhere any time soon. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: GPGTools - https://gpgtools.org iQIcBAEBCgAGBQJX6pYBAAoJELnOYK54exUC7K4QAJMeD76M/emK2uEOGMzXDUh6 hQZRMlJEizMYab0d0qVB7Vl96A5uNLiWp14tzWfgI1Hq31etb4GIXYBPlqAhrx8K /Unj7vlOTkIixwmlyizpbR1+8uQmlWUnyxV6dP9LSQQa2MLCQfAYiwZl+lyEqAP3 3ULd2DgMuVTpKcCGMlle10yI6+2vf4ZbkwZk/99SrPgGYXESntTOtArAYPD1yWm1 mg563N5OxM2Ekp1Q5I6r7XXn1iYLmeR9dBNBiW4O+d9AK0nVZW3BkhsAjAkDMmYb UK+/7rInrdmTunAw+aNiM48zwVXy2HyEXNOlfalR5zqPus45OJGZ4NaH2jO3Omsp 6GsKbYf+1kiBVhSkgI8etkqEM5vE9n23FivFuMsVNPQk0DB8SOE+wYmpTUbYQTJy Ik2FCQApWskAN/j9JsnGgUe3BqX6y9fdneYv0I4F9WKIZV/CzPFqUZ1bVDPZ8a5X b1+wUD6lSeovB1+xav51wEKp3dhI/CWqFPrqdkn3OQehmKSQfHcCY78MnsC0TSOt XpofWJu0v/8HQb9bMnS3DFN078ZbNIzjzL6ReprZNvXEY6BRUZgNPGcFJ2Ib71sk 3+Zn+L0MgHy2ILgJBfazeMoJiGzCX17edsXAXOpFJuwH/Fo0BONfApso/uMOO9Sg HDatQORdcFeUlegGLL7G =YKIi -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Yes, Carroll was a bit off but he had the basic idea... not going to nit
pick him for it. His solution was not as efficient as it could be but he
admits to not knowing AppleScript. No harm and I appreciate him focusing on
tech over trolling.

OK, he does deserve that. :)

Nor was I specific with the challenge. I added it because my script can be
slow so I wanted to make sure I would not paste before it was done. It does
add a nice touch, but not needed.

Need to set the delimiter before you use it... but that pretty much works.
Also, the AppleScript editor converts the \n to an actual new line making it
harder to read... it is more clear if you use the word return. I updated my
script to this:
--------
on run
tell application "Safari"
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to return
set theURLs to (URL of every tab of window 1)
end tell
set the clipboard to theURLs as text
display notification "Copied: " & (count of theURLs) & " URLs." as text
end run
---------
I tend to use the delimiters in AppleScript less than I "should," or at the
very least my using them more would make my scripts more concise and
sometimes faster.

Well, it is an object (a list) containing URLs. Nothing wrong with the name.

Nor is that the implication he is making. JavaScript is more universal than
AppleScript.

It's "interesting" how you and this same stupid puppet keep mangling the language in the exact same ways. LOL! > not going to nit > pick him for it. His solution was not as efficient as it could be True, but this isn't a case where efficiency comes into play. I realize this will baffle the hell out of you but it's even possible that a longer version of the code is more efficient than a shorter version. Unless you perform testing you won't know. > but he > admits to not knowing AppleScript. No harm and I appreciate him focusing on > tech over trolling. Which is more than what you did with my challenge. This is the first (and probably the last) Applescript I've written and, as basic as it is, I still had to wank around looking for info on things like: 'AppleScript's text item delimiters'. Even not having the phrase: "as text" stumped me for a bit. > >> As I said, I've never > >> used Appescript before but it definitely can be useful if you're > >> doing these sorts of things. > > > > What the hell do you mean by these sorts of things? You weren't, and my phrase "I'll leave it at that" meant exactly what it said. To learn this language I'd have to devote time I should be devoting to things that can generate income and, as cool as AppleScript might be, it isn't one of those things. > I added it because my script can be > slow so I wanted to make sure I would not paste before it was done.
