"Wow Alien: Isolation ported to Linux !" - I've been saying for years that
I'm not a gamer. This hasn't changed.

Since you seem to be a gamer let me ask... how important is having the
"latest title" to a gamer? It's good that it's being ported and this game is
a little over one year old. Is waiting a year a big deal for a gamer?

> Can't wait for Star citizen to come out !

Another game I've never heard of.

There is a small theme here... Alien Isolation. Star Citizen. Seems you like
sci-fi space games.

Yes, I prefer sci-fi games, but also any strategies as well.

Debian Hint #2: You can use 'dpkg-reconfigure <package>' to change the
answers you gave to the questions asked when you first installed a package.
The 'configure-debian' package provides a unified front end for doing this,
as well.

That company is now saying that it will require 12GB of RAM to avoid
paging for the Batman game. Clearly, optimization is not one of their
concerns.

It's stuff like that which makes me wonder whether I should go back to
consoles once this PC becomes obsolete.

The big problem with PC games is that you get into this loop where you need
to upgrade this, that and the other thing depending upon the game.
And it never ends.
Faster video cards, more powerful processors, better/faster/more memory
etc.
It's endless.

Who would drive PC industry if not games? Of course games should put
PC-s to their limits.

You only need to upgrade if you want the visuals to keep improving. If
you're fine at 1366x768 or even 1080p, whatever you have will likely be
good for as long as you consider the resolution to be good enough.

True, but it's no fun at the low resolutions!

It's not a big deal if a low-resolution monitor is all that you have. If
I were a teenager and every game was playable albeit at a low
resolution, I'd be happy.

It's a high quality game; the fact that it's old is not a problem. If
games get ported, it's best that they at least be good and Alien:
Isolation is definitely that. If Linux can attract Electronic Arts or
Ubisoft, people will take the platform more seriously. There's a slight
chance for Ubisoft and almost none for Electronic Arts which is
responsible for the best sports and racing games at the moment.

What kind of game is Star Citizen?
I don't do much gaming, but I would like a change of pace at times.
What is the goal of the game?

You might have been thinking of Ambrosia Software's "Escape Velocity"?

Good enough to see about firing up an old Mac for old time's sake.

Star Citizen is trading _and_ adventure, including first person immersion
(such as getting out of your comfortable spacecraft to salvage a
derelict). Of course, there's the dogfighting too, which is kind of what
it's all about (space combat). You can currently play "Arena Commander"
to hone dogfighting skills, as well as play "capture the core" and fly
races.

"Squadron 42" will be the Wing-Commander-esque campaign set in the Star
Citizen universe.

I have SC, haven't spent much time with it -- most of my space combat has
been in Elite: Dangerous. (The latter took a wrong turn, though, with
"power play", so I haven't played it in months -- might go back to it
when planetary landings become available.)

I don't think SC will ever be ported to other platforms -- too many
resources have gone into the game engine on the current OS. I could be
wrong, though.

I will say that Elite: Dangerous with a proper HOTAS is a real blast, if
you like space combat. It would just be nice to have better missions in
it.

LOL - I've been saying for years that I'm not a gamer, nor a comic book fan.

Yeah, I have interests in shooting people, not even in a movie theater.
