With a properly designed data schema, including primary and foreign keys, a bona-fide database like MariaDB will not allow the user to, for example, delete a record in one table while leaving all associated records in other tables undeleted (orphan records). He was accusing my proposed LO database of lacking referential integrity. I informed him, correctly, that in this case it did not apply.

Melzzzzz has been here to deeply comprehend the depths of bigdog's perversion. Melzzzzz reported him years ago. As expected, it did squat to thwart the clod. By getting an education from 'authority figures' like that you get moral imperatives like 'reverse racism'. Carried to its ultimate ending, the media position that it's 'partisan' for a conservative human to not wish to marry a child is instituted. -- Live on Kickstarter http://www.5z8.info/stalin-will-rise-again_j3h5uj_nakedgrandmas.jpg Jonas Eklundh

An employee's name can change, you know. That doesn't mean he becomes a different employee, and it also doesn't explain why his name must appear in more than one table or why changing it would mess up your database.

I think he's correctly stating that having duplicate data can give rise to data consistency issues such as someone forgetting to update all tables the dupes appear in. If he EVER carries NAME in multiple tables in the same database he's fired - even if he has referential integrity and CASCADE UPDATE enforced.

I won't give it to him because this is part and parcel of issues related to what I was talking about in this post: Message-ID: <q252l4$e7s$1@dont-email.me> > I think he's correctly stating that having duplicate data can give rise > to data consistency issues such as someone forgetting to update all > tables the dupes appear in. This was part of my point, actually, it's one of the reasons I even mentioned the stuff that I did, despite not specifically mentioning consistency. Did you happen to see what his response was? "Yep. Like your brain, those things are TOTALLY IRRELEVANT since the data is produced by the processing code and is immutable." - Feeb He ran from answering, he just tossed out 'immutable data' and kept running from there. IOW, he may be 'correct' but none of it had anything to do with what *he* is building, or claiming to be building... it was just a smokescreen that he probably read after the fact... as he continued to avoid how it was tied to his project. My take is, unless this 'immutable data' bit alleviates the need for all of the things mentioned, he's just blowing smoke. So what's he talking about with 'immutable data' in this context? > If he EVER carries NAME in multiple tables in the same database he's > fired - even if he has referential integrity and CASCADE UPDATE enforced. I'm guessing you'd say this because you don't design a DB with the idea that a thing like CASCADE UPDATE will come to the rescue.

But chrisv feels the need to belittle the herd. So be it. Contrary to chrisv's claim that he has "no interest in making trouble" (a lie as confirmed by the fact that he posts over 1000 times a month) he was quoted asking support staff how they would do a DDOS attack. chrisv's cut down on the nonstop narcissistic, senseless attacks he used to produce but he's certainly the same in the truthfulness area. He just uses sock puppets more to make those attacks. -- Get Rich Slow! https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.mac.system/6m_7Z7rQ6Hg http://www.5z8.info/php-start_GPS_tracking-user_f8h9lv_-OPEN-WEBCAM---START-RECORD-- Jonas Eklundh
