#291339 — Windows 10 shit

FromTattoo Vampire <sitting@this.computer>

SubjectWindows 10 shit
Message-ID<mhdbks$nbf$1@tattoovampire.eternal-september.org>
After updating to the latest build of the tech preview, suddenly I can no
longer launch regular applications from the start menu without right
clicking and selecting "run as administrator", or by opening the file
location and then clicking on the program file itself. Modern apps still
launch fine from start, though.

Using the feedback feature, it looks like the start menu is broken for
everyone who updated to the latest build.

Oh, and I'm still nagged to re-enter my Microsoft credentials several
times a session.

Supply and demand
Dear Microsoft,
I demand you supply something I actually want
I don't want cloud, or others poking around in my data
I don't want fingerprints all over my screen
I can type faster and more accurately on a keyboard, than I can with touch or speech
I don't want one device that does everything, I want one device that does each job well, not all of them badly
I don't want to do email on my games console, play games on my PC or cut code on my phone
My screen is not your advertising space
You can keep Windows 8 and 10, try to understand why Windows XP and 7 were successful
I will run what I want on my equipment, even if it's something that competes with your products - secure boot, etc
It's ok to say you got it wrong
Your choice is to start listening, or to you can continue the current trip to the junk pile
I've already moved on, but you might be able to keep other customers
Regards - Previously long term, now ex-customer

What did you expect from a tech preview, a complete fully functional,
bug free finished product?

What planet are you on?

He would rather complain and run a beta version of Windows than use Linux.

Like I said, we should all protest a beta product by uninstalling
Windows and installing one which works as though it's in beta forever.

All Operating Systems that I know of are eternally in Beta stage,
including Microsoft Windows.

Windows Technical Preview is still highly in development, which means
things sometimes can go terribly wrong, which is clearly the case in
build 10061.

Nothing wrong with people discussing their problems with this particular
build. We are all aware it will be fixed any time soon.

I replied because being the idiot that you are, you complained about the
way that a beta product works and attempted to insinuate that final
products made by Microsoft worked in the same manner. Linux works like a
persistent beta, Windows doesn't.

That's a shitty update, but it is just a tech preview. Granted,
it's farther along on the release cycle. Just like any other
unstable or beta release, shit happens. Hope they fix it for you soon.

I know. ;-) Just had to toss out something for the trolls.

Overall Win10, even at this stage, runs fairly well. I did have a nasty
crash about a month ago (after installing VMWare Player) that totally
hosed the installation, but that's what drive images are for!

How well does it handle media? I have heard it has native WMV support and
shows EXIF data on *all* JPGs, even ones where there is no EXIF data. How
does that work?
