Not only did the public reject BeOS. So did developers, hobbyists and
everyone else. It's been free for over a decade and the number of people who
give a shit about BeOS in any way, shape or form is basically round-off
error compared to the number of Windows-95 users still out there.

Here's a good write-up of BeOS and what happened. No apps, no vendor support
and an obscure OS is not a recipe for success.

Nostalgia runs high, but is the BeOS reboot more than an interesting

Back in the late 90s, I actually met two people who advocated BeOS completely. One of them was a programer who made a BeOS version of his computer demo and the other was a customer who regularly came into the store I worked at. That's about it. Nobody else cared at all. >>> Of course, the reasons for the situation, none of which have anything >>> to do with relative quality or value, have been explained to the lying >>> prick. >> >> I tried BeOS. This was a problem in Windows 98 and MacOS Classic but it was addressed once Windows XP and OS X came out. Once that happened, BeOS had no real reason to exist anymore. -- Charmed Tuna

Kelsey Bjarnason just entered my "Nyms to Avoid" list. GNU/Open_Source/Communism is good, of course, but that doesn't mean that MicroSoft/capitalism is evil; you need both, it's not "one or the other". He wants to host a thousand websites on his home PC, serving 100 thousand connections, while ripping DVDs ? ! He failed to understand Lloyd Parsons' _clear_ explanation of why his ChromeBook can switch to Linux. Bottom line: Kelsey is all kinds of fucked up.

He's pretty typical of the linux loons here in that. Of course most of them have gone to responding to posts as if they really didn't read every damned one of them. What they don't understand or appreciate is that while Linux is a good OS, the prime reason it doesn't get traction on the desktop is that it offers nothing compelling to attract users. In sales/marketing it isn't enough that you have a new 'widget', but it is really important to be able to show a compelling reason why one should buy/use that new widget instead of the current one. On the desktop, that case hasn't even been mentioned let alone proven. And for the most part, the new 'widget' just isn't any better at doing things people do every day with their computer, and in some cases, doing them worse if they can do it at all. -- Lloyd

Walk down to your local "big box" store. Count the Windows PCs on the shelf. Count the LGX boxes. Now stop being a fucking retard.

That was very much shown when netbooks with Windows showed up and all the Linux ones started collecting dust until the stores took them off the shelf. You really aren't very smart or very good at this. You've yet to show a single COMPELLING reason a consumer should even consider linux on his/her desktop. -- Lloyd
