I admit I know diddly about the subject, but even a brief Googling finds all
sorts of support for the idea that negative feedback helps maintain
stability. One such examples:

  <http://goo.gl/tHpLic>
    -----
In controlling amplifier distortion, there are two main weapons.
The first is to make the linearity of the circuitry as good as
possible before closing the feedback loop. This is unquestionably
important, but it could be argued that it can only be taken so far
before the complexity of the various amplifier stages involved
becomes awkward. The second is to apply as much negative feedback
(NFB) as possible while maintaining amplifier stability.
    -----

I suppose he could say all sources are wrong, though. :)

Because only about 2 dozen Chromebooks are for sale on Amazon, compared to
several hundreds of different Windows laptops. It is only natural that the
few Chromebook models would cluster at the top.

That idiot is comparing the individual sales of a few specific Chromebook models
against sales of hundreds of individual Windows models.

The idiot then tries to claim that Chromebooks are outselling Windows computers
which is complete buckshot. One or two specific Chromebook models are simply
more popular than any one specific Windows computer out of the several hundred
different models.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. This Chromebook statistic is grossly
misleading.

I'm guessing another turd of an "advocate" told you that you'd filtered
the same way that incompetent Richard Rasker did and you deleted the

Oh wRonG. It must really suck to be you.

"This SnipURL does not exist.

Possible reasons:

1. We delete snips used in spam.
2. You have entered an incorrect address.
3. It was deleted by the user who snipped it."

Since when is a piece of crap Chromebox a desktop computer? Oh, since a
few Linux idiots think it supports their bleating "Linux won!"

Just like making a call on an Android phone is "client computing with
Linux".

It's laughable.

Isn't it? Have a read of wRonG's drooling in the other post where he
mentions the 21" android desktop. One guy had "been dreaming about
that". a 21" Android device? FFS .... Android is still and will remain a
single Activity UI (widgets and toasts not withstanding). Another guy as
drooling it will replace his "virus machine".... Another that his family
"flock to this device". All sound familiar? It should.

Word of mouth can be great marketing, though. Still, it does make sense to
get your name out there!

Word of mouth is good but hardly great without some good marketing

Depends on the size of the business, market, etc., but in general - sure,
you do not want to rely just on word of mouth. With that said, I have known
people who have had quite successful personal businesses based just on
that... never advertising in any other way.

You do not have to care, sure. But some people *do* care about desktop Linux
becoming high enough quality to gain a decent user base.

Well, marketing can help. It can educate, and people are more
comfortable buying things that they are familiar with. As an up-front
investment, it can "kick start" a market or product.

But, let's face it, spending money to "market" something which is
available for free doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's a
two-edged sword - it's free, but there's no business case for
marketing-to/educating the masses.

FOSS simply does not work like traditional products which are "sold".
It's value is in facilitating the achievement of goals more
efficiently, in less time and with lower costs.

substitute 'will' for 'can' and you are pretty much on the mark.
Marketing is done for many reasons, educating or introducing a product
to the marketplace is high on the list. The idea is not always to make
people want to buy, but more often used to make them want to know more.
And that is where the sales process comes into play.

Which explains the very low uptake of Linux on the desktop.

Of course since there isn't anything compellingly different about Linux
on the desktop compared to Windows or OSX, and those products are
actively marketed, the case will never be made.

The approach would/should be on a smaller scale. ie; instead of
marketing Linux on the desktop, you market the targetted solution you
would provide a client.

But for whatever reasons, the case has not been made on the desktop.
In fact, it is a tougher sell because the end user (a business or
school for instance) is a bit resistant to having to depend on one
entity for the design, installation and on-going support. With Windows
and OSX they know that if the company they bought from bellies up or
changes direction, they have corporate support or another 3rd party.
That's not the case with Linux.

And no, online forums are not 'support' in this case.

Wrong again, obviously. There are examples in "both directions"
showing your statement to be wrong - there are products which have
been marketing heavily yes failed miserably, and there are products
which were very successful despite little to no marketing.

t's not worth reading the ramblings of an idiot who is constantly
wrong and who also lies a lot.

Over time, those examples are few in the grand scheme. Especially the
ones that were successful with little or no marketing, they represent a
tiny fraction.

As to the failures, well did they fail because of the marketing or did
they fail because it was a solution without a problem? I suspect the
vast majority that were heavily marketed and failed were mostly
solutions with no problem, or at least not seen as a solution.

Chris, you may or may not be more technically savvy than I am, the jury
is out on that.

But when it comes to sales, marketing and actual business I'm a fucking
genius compared to you.

And I'll add another T to Twat: turdv.

Figure a hypocrite chump like you would attack Hadron for pointing out
the hypocrisy of another cola "advocate" - in this case Roy Spamowitz,
who didn't mind freeloading the unpaid work of others but insisted on
being paid for his work.

Yep. It's always been that way.

Please post some of the juicy stuff here so we can have a laugh!
