GNU/Linux music challenge to the "musician" Carroll

Posted to the Usenet group alt.binaries.multimedia.transformation
are two MIDI files of a microtonal composition by Oljare called
"Nine Days Later." The composition uses a 29TET scale, i.e. 29-tone
equal temperament.

One MIDI file, which represents the actual music, is tuned with
pitch-bend commands.

The other MIDI file is untuned, using the default 12TET scale, and
it sounds like fucking shit.

Your job is to tune the untuned file using the wonderful GNU/Linux
tools.

The tuning can be accomplished by either directly modifying the MIDI
file or by tuning the MIDI synthesizer (software or hardware).

Note that the posting title of the untuned file is incorrect, but the
actual file names of the uploaded files are correct.

C'mon. Get going. What are you waiting for, Xmas?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

If it's not possible with slrn via ES (eternal-september), that I know of,
I no longer have a way to get binaries off usenet (not sure I even have
access to that newsgroup with ES, I don't see it listed).

> are two MIDI

Funny you should mention Midi, just now I was able to get a driver, that
actually still works under Mojave for an old MidiMan MidiSport 2x2 USB
interface (I think I've had this unit for ~15 years).

Couldn't find these files on the 'net'. Is this the guy:

I don't have these "wonderful" tools.

Seems I'll have to forfeit this 'challenge' ;)

What a stupid jerk! The web is not centralized. Then why are
all these idiots posting their stuff to that YouTube shit-site?

Everyone is supposed to get web space with their ISP account.
If not then they can purchase their own domain very cheaply.

Post your own stuff to your own domain and keep away from these
centralized entities.

Posting to YouTube should be considered a badge of incompetence
and idiocy.

I posted both MIDI files as binary attachments to THIS group.

Yes. it is possible and if you have a normal Usenet client
they should appear as attachments.

However, the mighty Google software has rejected both posts.
That's just another symptom of the trash that is Google Groups.

Of course, I FLATLY REFUSE to post to a web site. I will not
waste my time with enabling cookies and other hoop jumping just
to upload a simple file.

He can't figure out how to use it... apparently, he's too busy yanking the

That's 474 intervals.

How easy is it for you to demonstrate the first ten, by recording
something and uploading it?

In what thread?

I looked with slrn, I don't see any. I'm into to hide and go seek
even less than I'm into microtonal music.

Said they guy who won't even tell me where he put the files. I'm
not a "musician" if I can't manipulate a midi file in your mind. Tell
me what's wrong with that (*really* goofy) version of reality ;)

In any event, there is some tuning facility in Logic:

In THIS thread. Where else, peanut brain?

Your news server or something must be FUBAR because in Pan they
show up as plain as day -- as brilliant as the sun in July on a
cloudless day in the northern hemisphere.

Ask someone to grab them and repost.

Although it is strongly against my principles, I may repost later.

Get REAL Usenet access and not some sham junk.

Or maybe ES blocks them (as I alluded to earlier).

I consider slrn is to be "REAL" but I have no idea of its facility
for dealing with attachments. I'll just have to muddle through
life knowing you don't consider me to be a "REAL" musician ;)

Then ES, like Google Groups, is a sham junk news server.

On Usenet, nothing is supposed to be blocked.

These MIDI files are only a few kilobytes in length.
If some psycho-jerk were to post a rambling manifesto
of gibberish that was the same length it would NOT be
blocked, but yet these MIDI files are blocked.

Stay away -- far away -- from ES and GG.

Slrn can't handle Yenc encoding unless it is compiled correctly,
and that is something which you most likely have not done.

Jeeze! You can't do anything!

I'll post again later, little baby.

Don't bother... I doubt I'll mess with those files that are
'only for REAL musicians' ;)

Stallman should give me a medal.

He'd rather give you some tongue. Or his ass after he's dead.

Chrome told me to stay away from this one. WTF you got in there, Feeb?
