Who said they would never sell. I know I have always said they have a decent
chance - they are inexpensive, focused, and do away with the biggest
problems of desktop Linux. They are a perfect example of why your blaming of
the boogieman is wrong.

I'm surprised they are selling *well* (if indeed they are) because they
offer nothing a good cheap laptop can provide especially something like
an old thinkpad wiped and installed with Linux.

The total lack of choice in what I could run on Chrome I would find very
very limiting. I prefer to have choice. Clerly wRonG and turd don't.

Well, they are good for the limited use cases they serve... and for people
who do not care about privacy or, well, being "Free". Ironic how the only
way Linux sells well on any desktop is to completely give up on Stallman's
ideals.

Nothing "ironic" at all, actually.

>You weren't supposed to notice that!

Really? Who hasn't noticed that Stallman has rather radical
viewpoints, and that his "all software should be Free" stance is
really not viable?

I've said it before: There's nothing wrong with closed-source
software. There's nothing wrong with mixing open- and closed-source
software. Both the open- and closed-source software models are
needed, to optimally serve the market.

Duh.

People don't realize that RMS is at best an influential figure but by no
means a leader. If manufacturers and developers were to abide by every
one of his rules, it would literally be impossible to make any kind of
profit from software. His ideas for hardware design aren't bad though. I
also begrudgingly agree with his ideas on how to compensate musicians
for their work, especially in light of the news that musicians tend
never to get any kind of compensation at all.

I would love for my desktop and laptop to have nothing but free software
but using Nouveau means that my computers won't wake from sleep without
freezing the computer entirely. That and gaming require the proprietary
drivers. Luckily for all of us, every GPU manufacturers developers
fairly excellent drivers for GNU/Linux.

He does have a cult following, though.

Right. They would be able to profit from hardware but not software. Push
this idea far enough and you have the quality of not just software going
down but music, books, etc.

Even there he is a loon.

<https://stallman.org/articles/end-war-on-sharing.html>
    -----
The term "piracy" is used by record companies to demonize sharing
and cooperation by equating them to kidnaping, murder and theft.
    -----

No: they are not equating pirating music with kidnapping and murder! He is
just pushing nonsense. And taking what is not yours is not simply "sharing
and cooperation", it is the *opposite* of cooperation - it is refusing to
cooperate with the rightful owners of what you are taking!

His ideas for funding musicians, from the same page:
    -----
Fans of certain kinds of music could organize fan clubs which
would support the people who like that music.
    -----
Gee, we could also have fan clubs for doctors and architects and plumbers!
No: this is silly.

    -----
We could increase funds for existing government programs that
    subsidize musical performance.
    -----
How amazing liberal of you to accept this from him. We could do this with
all work - it is called Communism.

    -----
Artists can fund expensive works through subscription, with the
funds to be returned if the work is not made.
    -----
And how do they return the money they spent as they were making it? And by
subscription? Why not just pay them for the music when you buy a license to
it?

    -----
Many musicians get more money from selling fan merchandise than
from their recordings. If they take the plunge into
merchandise-based funding, they have no reason to restrict
    copying; quite the contrary.
    ----
And this should be - and is - a choice they now have. I am fine with that.
But as a choice!

    -----
We could support musical artists with public funds distributed
directly to them in proportion to the cube root of their
    popularity.
    -----
We who? The government? Communism again.

    -----
    Support artists with voluntary payments.
    -----
And do the same with mechanics, teachers, and silver smiths. No! Pay people
what they ask or do not use their services!
    -----

Obviously, Stallman's GPLv2 was key to the success of Linux (which is why
Linux-hating assholes like "Hadron" attack it). But Linus is much more
pragmatic than is Stallman.

Linus didn't set-out for Linux to conquer the world. That's just an

Yep. Some of the stuff Stallman says and writes is "out there" as far as
I'm concerned, but the main reason for the character assassination by the
iCultists and WinDrones is that he found a way to encourage Linux
development while simultaneously disallowing any one company to monopolize
Gnu/Linux. No one can steal Linux. And that eats away at the obsessive
cranks, like Snit and "Lloyd."

Again: who cares what your imaginary friends think? Why do you talk about
them so much?

False accusation. Really - just a lie. But you cannot refute him or me so
you lie about us. Do not worry, your cult-like herd of convenient friends
will never call you out on your lies.

Unlike iCultists and WinDrones who seem to thrall to brown-nosing their
respective corporate leaders, Linux users often disagree with the "big-
wigs" in the Linux community.

Deal with the reality of it, "Lloyd." Unlike you, we are not slaves to
corporate brands.

What is it with you and your imaginary friends? I am fine with you having

Because only about 2 dozen Chromebooks are for sale on Amazon, compared to
several hundreds of different Windows laptops. It is only natural that the
few Chromebook models would cluster at the top.

That idiot is comparing the individual sales of a few specific Chromebook models
against sales of hundreds of individual Windows models.

The idiot then tries to claim that Chromebooks are outselling Windows computers
which is complete buckshot. One or two specific Chromebook models are simply
more popular than any one specific Windows computer out of the several hundred
different models.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. This Chromebook statistic is grossly
misleading.

LOL. Did someone really say this?

Lower cost and fewer choices. Yes, that means they will show up at the top
even with moderate sales compared to other classes.

He does not understand the basics of what he is talking about - and often
talks about his imaginary friends. It is very odd behavior.

Yes... but they still outsell all the "standard" desktop Linux options -
assuming there are any even offered on Amazon. Essentially nobody wants
them.
...

Yup, turd. Otherwise known as "chrisv". Creepy Chris Ahlstrom, who also
knows fuck all about EE, tried to support him. Laughable.
