#481664 — The Ultimate of Ultimate Calculators

The absolute BEST and ULTIMATE calculator available anywhere
on planet Earth is the GNU/Linux calc:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/calc

Calc is a command-line program for fast keyboard entry (none of
that clunky GUI shit).

Calc is comprehensive and powerful almost beyond belief.

I use calc all the time (even though I never use ALL of it)
and you should too.

The calculators available for Microshit Winblows are a pathetic
joke compared to GNU/Linux calc. (That's because Winblows is
made for pussies whereas GNU/Linux is made for REAL MEN.)

Hail Linux!

Hail GNU and the FSF!

Hail Stallman!

Fuck Microshit and all the craven degenerates who support it!

calc isn't a Linux-only calculator. Quit lying.

A GUI calculator where you can click and/or key in is better.

It does look powerful.

http://www.isthe.com/chongo/src/calc/builtin-function-list

But it has a bunch of functions and functionality that have nothing to
do with numerical calculations, thus it fails the "Unix philosophy" and
you should be bashing it.

MS Windows we're talking about. Rules the world for 25+ years.

GuhNoo/Linux fails again.

You're such a turd that you stilk dont realise most GUIS utilise the
underlying programs you call "cli". And you can still use the keyboard
in them.

How can you be SO loud yet so uninformed.

Does it give the correct answer for sqrt(-1)? bc does not. A REAL
MAN's calculators will. Lame-ass calculators report an "error".

I'll use my REAL MAN calculator, my trusty HP48SX, thanks.

Calc handles complex argument for ANY function, with arbitrary
precision as well.

How cute. You have to hold it in your hand.

And it can't do arbitrary precision.

And it can't be programmed with more than TWO lines of code.

It does make a good paperweight, however.

That's a feature, not a bug.

Who needs that? I believe the HP48 calculates with 15 digits of
precision. Way plenty.

Sure it can. It's a programmable calculator. 32kB RAM!

The least that you can do is compile the calc source and report
any compiler warnings to the developers via their mailing list.

http://www.isthe.com/chongo/tech/comp/calc/calc-tester.html

Calc is actively developed and they welcome such information.

It's in the debian repos as apcalc and seems to work fine.
I do plan to play with it though at some point.

Well, 'i', the square root of -1, of course.

You must mean two different ways, polar or rectangular, of describing

Matters not, as the mighty HP48SX works with either system.

No. There are TWO separate and distinct answers.

The square root of -1 is essentially the root of a polynomial
equation:

x^2 + 1 = 0

According to the fundamental theorem of algebra:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamental_theorem_of_algebra

Every polynomial of degree N has N roots. This equation
is degree 2 and therefor has two roots:

i, -i

Similarly, every cube root has THREE answers. So
what are the three cube roots of -1 ?

Write a formula that will express the N N-th roots
of -1.
